    Update!

Did a bunch of work on the truck this weekend. Slapped the oil pump and pulley on, the water pump, then lifted the motor up and slapped the oil pan on and snugged it all up. Put the radiator and shroud back on. Basically all that's left to slap on is the fan and pulley, belt, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil and filter, radiator hoses, coolant, and slapping the Weber on. Then I can fire it up. Shooting for saturday morning.... if you hear a loud bang in Seattle that's me down in Vancouver trying to start it!!! LOL!!

With the new wheels / tires and the engine almost complete this thing seems like a totally different truck. :D

    It runs.
    Like crap, but it runs.
Seems that the *ahem* Weber I got is a dud. Having fuel issues, bigtime. I can get it to idle at about 900rpm, but it just won't meter below that. I have the idle screw almost all the way out. There are no vacuum leaks, went through everything. Timing's set at 8 btdc. Checked the ignition system, plugs are new and sparking good, wires new, cap, rotor, etc... all good.

Of course when I filled the radiator, I found a hole.... when water started gushing out. Needless to say I didn't have time to figure out the carb issue... didn't want to overheat the motor right after I put it all together.

    More to come.... *sigh*

At least it runs now!!! Once the radiator is fixed I'll actually be able to run it for a bit and figure out the carb issue. This week maybe? Bah.

Thanks man. Got a radiator and gonna slap it in tomorrow. I'll probably try and figure out the engine issues on sunday. It's technically driveable when it runs. I just need to replace some bushings and put the interior back together.

Can't believe I've gotten this far, but there's SOOOO much more to do.

    Update!

So I slapped that new(ish) radiator in today and ran the truck for 20 minutes or so, even drove it down the block and back! Took a bit to get it to settle down, but it runs pretty decent now, but it's got a HELL of a vacuum leak at idle. I went through it trying to find it, even sprayed WD40 around, tightened bolts, nothing. finally hit the throttle a little bit and it would lay down to a different idle each time. Hmm... wonder what the problem is... LOL!
I'm gonna pull the carb and see if I can bush the throttle shaft, some are easily removable. no idea, gonna try and find the correct rebuild kit for it, the guy I bought the carb from gave me a rebuild kit for a larger carb (probably a 38/38) and I could only use the Acc pump spring and diaphragm, nothing else fit. I'm hoping I can find one. had decent power when i got on it, so when the carb is sorted it'll drive decent.
When I installed the carb the Weber linkage kit didn't fit, so I had to improvise. Check out my custom cable setup! LOL!! Hey, it's pretty solid and works well.

Plus some shots of the truck as it sits now.

Try hooking up the electric choke to a 12V source... You can test it out while the engine is running direct to the battery and let me know what happens...

Choke isn't hooked up, just bolted on because otherwise it has a HUGE vacuum leak. Next step I was going to take was to pull the carb and go through it completely and see what I can do with it. The only thing missing from the choke besides being hooked up is the idle lever. I'll slap it all together and see what happens.

Got to mess with it a bit today and it is the throttle shaft, and an internal leak. The choke worked fine.
Seems to run OK with it like it is, so I'm going to move on to the suspension and clean it up inside. I'm gonna have to save up for a couple months for a real Weber. I'm not sure I want to go the "used" rout again, but if I find a screamin' deal I"ll probably take it... as long as it's a real 100% Weber. The one I have is an EMPI, a Weber copy made in China. $110. Nice.

    Onward!

It took me a couple of years, 2 wagons and 3 trucks to finally jump on the Weber band wagon. When I finally got a genuine Redline Weber, brand new straight outta the box, I couldn't believe I allowed myself to wait so long.

Forge on, my friend, you're doing great....eventually you'll have her done and you'll have one helluva reliable, yet fun as f*k ride, without the monster monthly car payment.

Actually they are Jeep wheels, and are a bolt-on. They're 15x6 and have a large enough centerbore to go right on the fronts. Makes the truck look a million times better, and honestly it can use all the help it can get!:verdict_in:

Finally there will be progress. My wife and daughter will be visiting grandma in California for a week, and I'll be tearing into the truck. I still have to figure out the carb issue though. I pulled the carb, checked the intake bolts, checked the adapter gaskets, made sure it was all snugged down properly, slapped it back together, and it still whistles. It sound like a gasket leak, but when I put my hand over the air horn the sound muffles. If I put it over enough to almost choke it, it's pretty muffled. Seems to be coming from inside the carb. If this had a base plate like a Holley I'd swear it wasn't tightened all the way.

One thing I will try is turning the carb around 180 degrees. I had to swing it around because of the throttle cable, and since it looked like it could be mounted both ways (yea that sounds bad, sorry ) I swapped it around for the cable. I don't know, I'm running out of ideas. If it still does it I have a stock 20R carb I'm going to throw on there and see if it whistles. If it does it's the manifold (which I doubt, but hey, process of elimination), if not, then if it runs decent I'll keep it on there and just save up for a REAL Weber, or a Holley 350 if I find a good deal.

I also got the stock spare tire hoist out last weekend and marked the holes for the '93 spare hoist that's going in. Looks like it'll just be an easy drill and swap in, fits nice. I'll post some pics, I'm doing that later though. The newer ones are cables and they don't rust out and seize like my stock one did.

So next up is to pull the front end apart. Going to clean everything up while I'm at it, do the ball joint flip, and turn down the torsions and try for about 2-3" drop. I have the 23mm sway bar also from the same '93, so I'll swap that in while I have the torsions out.

Next will be the rear leafs, going to pull them out and remove the center leaf for the 2" drop. While I'm at it going to replace the trans rear seal... right now it's duct tape (no, I'm not kidding). I have no idea what the hell they were thinking but it barely worked. This thing leaked fluids everywhere. Doesn't leak from the motor anymore! :waytogo:

Well, one step at a time... still SOOOOOOO much to do. :brickknock:

Yes. Duct tape. And it worked about as well as you can imagine. There are things you CAN'T fix with duct tape!!! :looney:

Drove the truck a bit yesterday... just up and down hills in the area trying to see how it pulled... drove pretty decent. The carb stopped whistling for a while so I figured I'd take the opportunity to drive it a bit. I can tell the bushings in the front suck... the front end was really loose. The new tires helped though, but I don't want to drive the thing too much before I get an alignment.

Put the interior back together also, was sick of the pieces sitting on the floor, so I slapped them back in place. Checked out the heater controls and got everything set right.

Later this week it's the front end, the carb, and getting things finally tightened up and road worthy. I'll even take a pic of the duct tape masterpiece!!!!
