how did you guys wire your coil up? specificaqlly.... what did you guys disconnect and what did you guys reconnect and to what? just wanna make sure i dont leave anything undone or wire up anything i dont really need....
so looking further into the net about this, does anyone also know if wiering the coil into the truck will at that point require the 6al ignition box??? hope someone can clear the air on this..... i think im getting more or so confused about the process all together.
the ignition box is not mandatory if you just want to change the coil.. its literally switch one out for the other. it should be extremely simple to hook up a 6al to your 22r. thick red and black go to the battery red+ and white- wire connects to the original coil wires and orange+ and black- are your new coil wires its pretty much just a amp for your ignition. 22re requires a tach adapter which connects to the coil wires.
well i have the coil but im not quite sure what wires go to the coil itself. there are the two terminals that come from the distributor, then the two plugs witch go from the original coil out to the wireing harness that are involved......... my main concern is what wires do i hoop up to what exactly?? i mean, do the wires coming from the dizzy connect anywhere to the coil in order to recieve a signal of when it fires or?? kinda hate that i dont completely understand the workings of a toyota coil and ignitor. i'd like to swap out just the coil but i may look into the entire box and see how much that will run me.....
If your just replacing the stock coil with a blaster, it's just a remove and replace deal... You need to keep the stock ignitor to pickup the signal from the dizzy. It will not run if you hook up the dizzy direct to the blaster coil... Hmmm... Think of it as a stereo system... Player = Dizzy: Dial it in to your favorite tune... < hahaha! EQ/booster = ignitor: Equalizes the signal from the player... Speakers = Coil: Can you feel the shocking BASS! If you want it louder with more bang you add an amp which = MSD box... Hope I didn't confuse you more...
Point of order: An MSD control box (of any flavor) will serve to replace the stock ignitor. That's the setup I am currently running with... an MSD 5 and blaster coil, no ignitor. Unless you're planning on extracting as much power as possible (racing/crawling/mud bogging with a fairly built up engine) anything higher than an MSD 5 is overkill....maybe an MSD 6a if you have a slightly warmed over engine and tend to have a lead foot, but the extra money for a 6AL model only gets you a rev-limiter...not something most drivers have a need for.
ok, so since i dont have camera access at the moment, here is a relative picture of what im working with. my ignitor/coil looks like this down here. what i wanna know is in order to connect the new coil, what do i eliminate? fomr what i can tell, the black connection below the coil outlet for the dizzy will need to come off, so , will i need to reconnect or in this case splice connections for the new coil so they go to the positive and negative terminals of the coil? with that, i can only see the 4 screws above the coil that can disconnect the coil from the ignitor at this point.......
ok this is what you do, i have mines MSD BLASTER 3 hooked up step 1: remove the top 4 screws(i suggest you screw the screws back after removal of the old coil just in case you might need those screws someday) step 2: remove the coil and un-plug the plug that hooks up to the coil.. step 3: (now either keep or cut off) The vanilla lookin cable is your hot side and the black, ground... you can either splice a wire to those two(like i have in my truck) and hook the coil like that, or cut off the plug and solder some wire to make it longer....i will post a pic of mine tomorrow... now these steps isn't just for a MSD coil, it could be for just about any name brand coil as long as you can see a posi. and negi. side on the coil, and your yellow and black wire should always be the posi and negi that goes to the coil...
perfect, that was the answer i was looking for right thurr.... ill have to try this tomorrow morning. picture swhould help just in case. thanks for the help guys i appreciate it.
here: (sorry for the hugeness xD) video: How to Wire a an MSD blaster series coil, (And any other kind of coil!)
damn it......... thats what i figured just needed to be done always nice to make sure though...... i didnt know if something would be "off" if i just tried it but cool, thanks!
