If it's just the tranny I'd say it is but don't quote me. I don't see y it shouldn't bolt right up since the r an the re the same motor just one has a carb an one is efi

Motors are the same. Different cam, but only slightly. Its just the intake and fuel system difference. And the transmissions are interchangeable. Keep the throwout systems matched to what they came from and you should be good. Now is a good time for throwout bearing, clutch, main seals, and pilot bearing. :D

yep they are swappable. Your slave might have to be swapped with his slave, IDK with out looking at the trans side by side, but thats an easy swap as well. Just remember to bleed the hydrolics. What I wanna know is why would he wanna swap to a 4 speed. I have one in my truck right now and I cant wait to get rid of it. My 5 speed is sitting on my bench at work taunting me until it gets slow enough for me to have time to throw it in.

87 alloy 4 speed and 5 speeds are identical, the slave is the same, you dont need to bleed it, just unbolt it from the 4 and bolt it to the 5. btw the difference between these tranys is just the last gear is missing on the 4speed, the 4speed being stronger is a myth, but dont let your buddy know that.:waytogo:

Is your truck 4wd? If not you guys might run into problems cause i dunno how you would mount the transfer case to a 2wd trans. Not absolutly sure though.

You should be able to swap the tail section of them, but I'm not 100%. You may have an easier time finding a 5 speed locally.

Lol, locally, not ****ing likely, if it's not ford, chevrolet, dodge, good luck, the mini scene is not very big here, well I say that an we have Hills Customs and they are putting out some of the suckiest builds here in texas. But they do a lot of fullsize trucks and they are rediculous pricing!!

You going have to figure out if the transfer case for his 4wd will be able to mount to your old 2wd trans. Thats the biggest problem. If it can bolt up should be fine. If not your out of luck.
