Finally scored a truck! A door regular cab 94 toyota auto. Seems to be in really good shape practically no rust etc. I dont want to lower it or anything. Mainly interested in keeping it for the long haul. Its only go 90000 miles on it. 1. Is there anything specific to this model year that I should know about? 2. The guy I bought it from was pretty regular with oil changes. He was using 5w 30 in it. Should I change it back to the factory recommended oil. 3. Lastly I live in MD. The roads are commonly salted during the winter. I have been thinking about getting it treated with rust protectant in the undercarriage. Is this worth it? Thanks again guys
The rust protection will be more than worth it. I would recommend getting the fluid changed in the tranny unless it's been done recently. Then just keep up regular maintenance and it should last you years! BTW throw some pics up when you get a chance!
everytime i get a new truck i change the oil, trans fluid, diff fluid, and coolant since you dont know the history of the previous owner. I think the rust protectant thing definitly is worth the money. And i think the 5/30 is fine for that truck. I dont know about oil in cold weather since im in cali, but if people normally use thinner oil cause of the cold then stick with that.
i know it only has 90k miles on it but I would do a full tune up. Plugs, wires, oil change, filter, check your belts and distributor, check fuel cell, and maybe new cat. Also invest into a K&N intake. Since it's an automatic, service the tranny with a flush. May sound a lot but good to go... If you don't mind how much did you pay for it?
I paid 2500$ for it. A pretty good deal I think...I've spent months looking for a good one. I've changed the oil, filters, and coolant. Tommorow I've gotta drive 4 hours straight to visit some family. Hopefully it'll be fine. Gonna do the plugs and transmission fluid in the next week or two. Fuel filter after that.
