Did you put that hyper-lube stuff on the rings?

Good idea pulling another pan, it does save you alot of time! Just hope you got the pickup tube aswell?

    Looks good so far!

yeah i soaked the bores and pistons in that stuff before i slide them in. and a thick layer on all bearings inside and out when they got installed.

and yes, i got the pickup tube. i noticed that this is more of a mid sump than rear sump. which means i wont have to find a rare rear sump 5/7M oil pan. i can run the common mid sump with little to no mods.

i actually got that new pan installed, as well as grabbing all the bolts off the front of the junkyard 78. so i installed the few bolts i needed. as well as installed the pan and pickup tube. its ready to go in. so it should be getting installed this weekend. i didnt take a shot with the pan on, because i only did a mild outside cleaning. inside is spotless. ill pressure wash the outside and paint it silver when i do my final paint coat.

hopefully this is the last time i see the bottom end exposed.

by the way, this thing is now heavier than i am. lol. and im still tossing it around. its probably in the 220lb range now. possibly more. a 22re longblock is 320. heads are about 35lbs. carb, intake, exhaust, accessories, ect probably make up the rest. and im a little guy. im only 160lbs. lol. this is gonna be fun to take off the bench, carry up my steep driveway (which i cant bring my stupidly low truck down :D) and stick in the back of the truck to swap it at the shop. i dont have a motor lifter here. haha. ill let you all know how my back feels afterwards.

i cut 3-1/8 turns off the coils, beat the crap out of my inner fenders, ran shorter tires and rolled/flared/stretched the fenders alot.

I don't know what kind of numbers the new setup will make. Probably about 150 at the crank, more when/if I put a bigger cam. As of right now, probably about 130 at the crank. That's just rough math and comparisons to similar builds. It barks the tires into 2nd gear at 4200 rpm. I'm sure the new motor will chirp them into 3rd gear, atleast at high revs.

Today, I finally bolted the console to the floor (hadn't been near a drill and power whilst having free time in too long). So that won't flop into my gas pedal foot anymore. And I mounted an a-pillar mount antenna. Its off a datsun car of some sort. The cable would reach the stock stereo location, but not the console location. So when I reinstall my stereo, I'll have to get an extension cord to make the two connect. But it looks super old school, and extends out to a massive length. I shouldn't have to worry about not getting reception ever again. Not that I used the radio much. Mostly just for the college run techno station

And I'm checking out a grille and rearend tomorrow. So hopefully those are good. I don't need the rearend, but for the price I want an extra to tear into. Figure out how to narrow it, and regear/reseal it.

And to answer the original statement, yes it beats D series honda kids, and most VW's. Atleast in mild, or similar build form as me. I have more torque and short gears to get me off the line better than them.

hell yeah!!! i had a stock motor 1987 b2200 monoleafed and lowered and no torison bars. i had to put my ps2 in my truck and had to pull off on the side of the freeway.when i merge backed on i didn't get any traction till i hit third gear.my truck was in a full on drift.i have tried to get my toyota to get to do the same thing.it has enough power to get to the ground.i think if i had a posi-traction or a celica supra rear end it do it.are you going to post a video soon??? also i'm going to the hilux meet in june!!!

that to me sounds like you were spinning on the sand on the shoulder. this truck has no problem spinning the tires. neither did my old 92 which was much more stock drivetrain than this truck.

ill post a video someday. ive been busy with other stuff. like women and beer :D

Today I went and bought some parts for my truck. Got a G082 rearend (8" ring gear, 4.10 ratio), a faded red grille that was in good shape, and another 20R non-egr intake manifold. Paid $110.

I tore the rearend down to a housing, 2 axles and a 3rd member. It appears all in good shape inside. Seals and bearings are in good shape too. I want to narrow it, but there isn't a whole lot of extra spline that isn't engaged into the 3rd member. So I can narrow it about 1-1/2" overall without having the axles resplined. Just trim the length down a bit and shorten the tubes. I'm also going to hunt for 3rd gen supra rear spindles to rob the brakes off of for a rear disc upgrade. I might as well if i find the parts cheap. And I'm now on the hunt at all the yards for a set of 3.73 gears.

I installed the grille. It was red, but pretty damn close to the color of my orange paint. Its faded to white on the top, and the center area is more gray than dark silver. I have no complaints about it though. Better than a grille with the entire corner busted out.

And the intake manifold I'm going to time myself and port out like the one I already did for my truck. It will be for sale. Won't fit 22r heads, 20r only. But i can vouch for their difference in mid-high rpm power increase and throttle response. I'll take photos as I do it, better than last time, and do a write-up in the how-to's category.

That's about all I accomplished today. But its something. One day closer to the hilux meet.

Here is a few photos of the new antenna I installed the other day. It looks sweet. I've actually already forgot its there. Haha.

And a photo of factory '77 dually rear rim/rims. They don't use 4 rims in the back, just 2. They have 4 bead seats each. 2 tires mount to one rim. It had a roughly 12" wide hoop on a 14" rim! My tire shop would hate me, but i thought about mounting one super wide tire across the widest beads. But don't know if that would work or if there is even a 14" tire in the 295 wide range. Haha. But look at that effin' dish!!! Maybe mount a set of these to it, widest 14s that exist new I know of.

i dunno. didnt know anyone that had accords or preludes.

I got the new motor put in today, but ran into a giant blonde moment. And didn't notice until right near the end of the install. At the back of the engine block, there is an oil passage block off fitting. Well, I forgot to put that fitting in before I attached the transmission. And so, now I either have to scoot the motor forward tomorrow, and hopefully fit in between the flywheel and block to install it. Or pull the motor all the way out, take off the clutch and flywheel, put that fitting in, and put it all back together. I am really pissed off at myself. Can anybody verify from past experience if it will install with the flywheel in? Through the starter hole would be awesome. FML

Putting in an 81 22r and reusing my 20r head. Ends up creating a nice high compression setup. I just have a few bugs to work out, and get things buttoned up tomorrow. I'm getting tired of taking my motor and trans out. Haha. This is the 2nd or 3rd time this year. I gotta stop beatin' on the stock clutch. :D

Wow yeah ive heard good things about those motors. Did you do internal work as well? Ive heard its best you do it all one time, cause just a regular swap not going yeild the best results.
