Anyone know the reliability and few mileage on these motors? My sister is wanting me to find a nice 04-06 4Runner and I know absolutely nothing about these motors.
Check out www.toyota-4runner.org 05 is when they added VVT-i to these motors. No known major problems with them. The only vehicle Toyota sells that is still made in Japan. Tell your sister go for it!
word, quite interesting then lol. note they were also found in GX470's, Tundra's, and Sequioas. Like all UZ's, the later the engine, the more VVTi and electronics found on it. Earlier the engine, the less to mess with.
(A bit of a threadjack here) I worked on a SC430 today, did front brakes. (they were O so familiar...) Anyway I coulda sworn it said 2UZ vvti on the engine. Had the worlds nastiest 18's on it, but it pulled real hard over about 4K rpms. Isnt it basically a iron block 1UZ thats punched out? Plus vvt-i?
the SC430's don't have the 2UZ's. they have the 3UZ. 4.3L DOHC VVT-i 32V V8. pretty much a bored out successor of the 1UZ. Anything with the 1UZ upgraded to the 3UZ when it came out. UZ basics. 1UZ - 4.0L DOHC 32V V8 <<< Later years began to have thinner rods and addition of VVT-i and higher compression. All Aluminum 2UZ - 4.7L DOHC 32V V8 <<< Similar to 1UZ, BUT has aluminum heads on IRON block. In contrast to the 1UZ, it is pretty muched "bored and stroked", but not majorly. TRD supplied superchargers for the Tundra's back then, but the thin rods meant bent rods from supercharger. Later years also included VVT-i, not sure if the first 2UZ initially had VVT-i. Aluminum Heads, Iron Block. 3UZ - 4.3L DOHC 32V V8 <<< Initially was introduced with VVT-i, this was the most modern of the UZ family. Stroke is similar to 1UZ, but it was slightly bored out .3 liters. Since it was a later year model engine, it had thinner rods. The 3UZ had 300+HP, and the later 3UZ's had more. Simply put, it created 1UZ power, earlier, broader, more efficiently, and the powerband was smoother. All Aluminum All UZ motors were created with automatics. From what is known, no manual UZ's were ever made. This seems to be the dilemma most people have, but luckily, more bellhousing adaptors are being created to adapt UZ's to 5spd W58's, R154's, 6spd Supra V160/1, or even the T56 found in Dodge Viper's. Early 1UZ rods interchange with 2UZ's and 3UZ's. Eagle H rods are available, or "Lextreme rods" are too. Both of those are proven and built rods that can handle boost etc etc. SC430's weren't the prettiest or lightest Lexus around... its more of a girly car with a bigboy V8 tucked behind a chick's automatic. The 2001 Lexus GS430 came with the 4.3L 3UZ, it pushed the fairly heavy 4door from 0 to 60mph within 5.6 seconds. Talk about pushin it. then let VVT- handle the economy and power making. VVT-i is Toyota's Variable Valve Timing - with Intelligence. It's an all around the clock variable valve timing system. It's an in-cam system that runs hydraulically via a solenoid. If I'm correct, it adjusts the whole cam +/-5* or +/-30* relative to the cam's neutral position. It naturally has EGR built in as the vehicle cruises, plays with timing at idle so it is smoother than squeaky clean glass from a factory, or makes the most out of the compression as you go Wide Open Throttle.
Yeah the 1FZ (wikipedia says). I havnt done a lot of research on those engines but that comes from a older big inline 6 toyota has used for a long time. I just really like those suvs, and solid front axle... Im still in love with 96-2000s pathfinders... had a 98, bout to get a 97 just to fix and resell.
