OK last time I haven't been on in a long time. The 4 speed 8" has 3:07 gears, which means the CARRIER "what carries the gears" aka third member will not accept any other gear set if you have a 4 speed CARRIER. You will need a 4X4 or a v6 or a 1 ton carrier to put the lower gear in. Alothough the 4X4 carrier will not work if your truck is lowered because the CARRIER is longer. I found out when lowered my truck from being a prerunner.:waytogo:

    I have got a 1997 2WD with a 2.4 diesel.

It comes stock with an 8" diff in a 4.1:1 ratio.
    The gearbox is a G58 5-speed.
If this setup is of any use to you, send a PM & I'll get back to you.

I have also got a 4x4 LSD in a friends workshop getting fitted up with a 4.3:1 ring & pinion.

There does not appear to be any problem with fitting thie 4x4 diff in the 2WD housing, though I have yet to bolt it together & try to drive somewhere...
