I just got back from the junkyard and saw a Previa S/C with Rear disks. I was wondering If anyone knew if the Previa uses the same 8" diff as the 2wd pickups? The axle itself Looked the same except for the mounting points of Previas 4 link system. Could anyone shine some light on this for me? If it is in fact an 8" diff, I am planning on getting a V6 third member and a supra LSD, and I will be in business
I have a 7.5 inch previa 3rd member and detroit true-trac in my truck. I didn't personally pull it so I don't exactly what model... It does look very similar if not identical to the rear end on my moms supercharged previa.
A quick search told me the S/C came with a 3.70. The NA previa came with a 4.30 Im curious where the build tag is on em. Ive looked for em at the JY. But never spend enough time lookin. If its a F code, why not try to swap backing plates on your drum axle with all the disc hardware. Toyotas are stupid easy interchangable. Then get your MK2 supra F code LSD.
I had 3.58s stock. I initially just wanted a core to rebuild with my LSD. I figured a little lower gear ratio couldn't hurt and the price was the same. I do kinda miss my old gas mileage and highway cruising speed though.
Ok just to clarify... Just take all the disk set off the previa axle along with the backing plate/ hardware and it should fit up onto the P/U's 8" axle just fine minus the drum setup? Im fairly good at fabricating, so some grinding and drilling holes won't be much of a problem... but any extra little info will help.
I haven't done it but I almost went through with it. The only other thing I know is that the Previa rear discs have a drum brake type setup for the e-brake. Meaning the center of the rotor(hat) still works like a drum brake (with a cable I believe). And then there is the regular caliper for actual braking.
