What is the 1st year of extra cabs? I did a little searching and can't really find the 1st year Toyota offered a extra cab. Also any info on the extra cab is appreciated. Was there a SR5 on extra cabs. Extra cab longbed or shortbed. Since the 79' is down for a while. I got it torn down to the frame right now. I am having Toyota withdrawls. So while I am parts collecting for the full frame up rebuild. Working on cleaning and getting ready for powder coating the frame, and I need another truck to move the parts for the 79' anyways. I thought I might try finding a 1st year Ex cab truck to keep my Toyota blues at bay. Plus having a small back seat area might be nice. But since I don't know what year they started making the ex cab, it makes truck hunting difficult.
1984 was the first year they offered an extracab model. SR5 trim was available. The "cab" however was not big enough to seat anyone. Mainly used for more storage. 1989 was the year where seats were put in the extracab.
I thought i saw some pics of a '79-'83 ex cab. I just cant remember what thread. it was on this forum though.
there was a rare custom "king cab" on the 79-83 body. It was just a fiberglass cab extention, i think it was a winnebago cross deal like the trekker... the first toyota XtraCab was 84... like the OP said, 89 was the first jump seat extra and around 2000 they came out with a double cab in the US... the double cab had been around for years overseas... since like 89 maybe even before
yeah, pre 89 xtra cabs were like an extra "few" inches or so. maybe some room for a reg sized sub in a box behind the seat, if that.
