So im sanding my hood down to the metal and im thinkin bout just leaving it bare metal and clearing it. Would this keep it from rusting up? I got mine about 1/4 done. sanded, cleared, buffed

I love the look of bare metal. Unfortunately I have yet to see a clear paint that will hold up. Clear powder coating or ceramic coating might work, but I am afraid part of the problem might be that the steel oxidizes under the clear and even if it is only slight, it really ruins the nice bare metal look. I don't know the exact science of it, but if you just go to the autoparts store and buy some clear automotive paint and spray it on bare metal, it won't look good for very long.

Actually, they do have a few new processes. The best way right now, seems to be a "clear base" they call it (it's basically like a binder with no pigment), then you clear like normal over that. Another way that some do it, is use an inter-coat clear first (like for airbrushing) and then normal clear after that. "They" (who ever "they" are), say 2-3 years no problem, but we'll see how long it really lasts.

Here's one my buddy just did.

thats pretty cool looking. one thing people have done over the years which works in dry climates (but possibly others) is to spray cooking spray onto a rag and mop it over the car. and then scotchbright any spots that surface rust. sort of alot of upkeep but its one way to go about it. i saw a a bare metal isuzu parked at the mall in vegas once. it looked pretty cool.

I would be more concerned about the glare from the sun while im driving. That bare metal going be reflecting a lot. It looks super sick though. Pretty neat actually. Gonna need some tinted polorized glasses to reduce the glare it puts off.

don't they make like do it yourself line-x or rhino liner type stuff that is clear? then it would have that cool texture and it would be clear and last forever.

you can do clear ceramic tint on your windshield that blocks 99% of uv light . We have it on all my bosses cars and I love it... its expensive, but worth every penny if you ask me.

We all get out tint done at signature tint.

I think its wincos brand tint. They have a really cool display with a heat lamp that shows how well this stuff work.
