Is there a way to tell if the cluster in my truck is cable driven or electronic without tearing out the dash? Or does it matter? btw, I have read the write ups in the how to section.

    Thanks

go look at your tranny, if you see a cable coming out then its cable driven..or even easier, if you have a 93+ its electric...and if you have a 92 its a 50/50 shot from what i've read, and 92.5 and down are cable

It does matter... electronic speedo wont work on a cable type cluster and vise-versa. Reach your hand up underneath the dash and feel for the speedo cable. It will come from the firewall and plug right in to the center of your cluster. If there isn't one there, yours is electronic. ALSO, if you haven't bought the cluster already, make sure what its coming out of. If your truck is an automatic and you want the PRNDL12 display, you need to make sure it comes out of an automatic. More important, if your truck is a 4cyl, you're gonna want to get one out of a 4cyl. The tach out of a 6 cyl is calibrated differently. You can get it to work with some adjustment, but you'll have to install it, take it out to adjust/ reinstall and repeat until you get it right. If you have one and you're ready to install, DISCONNECT YOUR OIL PRESSURE SWITCH BEFORE YOU HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH. Change your oil pressure switch to one for and oil pressure gauge. Your regular cluster has an oil pressure light and not a gauge. If you connect the cluster and power up the truck, the regular switch will blow out your gauge in your new cluster and you'll be back at square one looking for another cluster or one for parts to replace the oil pressure gauge.
I know you mentioned you've read up on the how to already and I added in a bunch of extra info, just wanted to save you some trouble, good luck man!:waytogo:

a very easy way to adjust the tach, is to de solder the pot and just extend the wires, you can have your dash all put back together and adjust it on the fly! thats what i'm doing on mine

so when i do the swap I shouldnt have to run a separate wire for tach?
I should pick up the signal threw the wire already in the place?

look behind the tach, there are 3 screws, they are labeled, just tap into the one you need, there should be a +, -, and the tach input
