I just bought a 1984 yota p/u and it has the utility bed but it didnt have a tailgate. if anyone could help, I would greatly appriciate it.

 

do you mean the bed with the lip?

 

If it's a normal bed like I'm thinking of then buy a tailgate skin or combo and weld it in with a bit of bracing like an X-shaped design or something.

 

I am thinking of making one cause it is flat, tail light to tail light with a small roll up an down, but, If i could find one it would be easier. And yes it is the lip on top. And it has the outside bed hooks that I really dont care for. I'd like to find a 4x4 bed and front fenders too if you know anyone. Like i said I am new to toyotas and I dont even know where to begin looking for anything. New parts or used. all i can do is ask and im not too proud for that. HA HA

 

check craigslist, usually can pick up parts pretty cheap. i got lucky and found my 4x4 bed in a scrap yard for $200.
