My job has takin me away from the truck for a bit but wanted to see what ur guys thoughts were on doing a slight notch in the factory frame and just re-enforce it with a heavy guage piece of steel, and if so how much could you do it? 1"- 2"? would this weaken the frame? I know the frame in that area isnt that wide to start with. Reason i ask is cause i saw it on a s-10 and he only did it to give him self an xtra couple inches of axle clearance since it was just dropped with leafs and blocks and didnt want to do big c notches....I considered it since im never going to bag my truck but still keep a low stance. i have drop leafs and a 1" block with about 3 inchs of axle clearance right now but want to put a 2" block in....
if you not going to bag it then there is no real point to do a big notch. so if you just want to do a small C notch the easiest way i have seen it done is to get a foot long or so section of 4'' steel pipe and cut it in half. trace that to the side of the frame and cut it out to fit the pipe half into it. weld in the pipe half and you have a 2'' C notch.
Here is a pic of the small c-notch that Ive got on my 91 Toyota. Its a universal type that will fit on most import trucks. You can get them from suicidedoors.com or airbagparts.com (AVS).
I wouldn't go with bolt on anything myself. If I were gonna use something like that then I would weld it on also.
