Anyone running a light weight flywheel? I want to upgrade to a 12 pound LCE flywheel but it's $350. Saw a ebay sale of a Fidanza flywheel with a new clutch for 400. The Fidanza is listed as 9.5 pounds is that too light where I won't be able to hookup?

I'm confused with this weight thing.

lighter flywheels are high rpm and easy rev, but it may be slightly harder to drive on the sreet because its so light. less weight and less momentum so when u let out ur clutch it may be easier to stop the engine so your gonna have to give it couple of revs to prevent a stall.

For a lightly modified truck (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) what would you recommend? This is not going to be a Daily Driver, Friday commute to work and weekend street truck.

i would recamend a 12lbs flywheel, only because its not to light and yet lighter than stock plus alot of ppo are satisfied with it. also torque is something to consider when doing this. torque is heavy and high rev or horses is lighter, 12lbs is like a balance between. and for right now you should spend the money on ur axles or suspension rather than a flywheel.

but as long as the flywheel not warped or cracked and it can be redone (meaning the thickness is within spec) then id say go for it.

Thanks for the info 22R, the truck needs a new clutch really bad and since I'm changing that I thought I'd might as well do the flywheel and rear seal. Not sure if the hype with a light flywheel is actually worth the price. One place said that the 9.5lb flywheel yielded a 10 to 20 HP gain at the wheels. I might do OE clutch and flywheel as the cost is just $150 out the door.

i got the 9lb. lce flywheel on my truck.... i like it. it is a trick at first to get used to it but its nice after the initial learning experience. it'll rev faster fosho but unless you have a good autometer tach your stock tach wont accurately keep up for how fast it'll rev.....

with it i would also suggest you get a short throw shifter........ 2 of the best investments i made when i was rebuilding my truck. yes they might be pricey but well worth it in my opinion. :waytogo:

i just mentioned it on another thread, the W58 3rd gen non turbo supras have a much shorter shifter arm, followed by the older celica/coronas. and they are interchangable. there are 2 pivot ball sizes. so they might not all work. but id try a few out. on my old 92 i took the steel upper half off, trimmed the lower aluminum half, tapped it, made an 8" extension from alum on the latch, drilled and tapped both ends, and stuck it on. put a lock nut on the bottom. i made the base the same diameter as the stock one was. so the boot fit it tight. it looked really good. i might do that again. if there is an interest, ill make a bunch of them.

I have the LC 9lb flywheel also. It really isn't hard to get used to, and well worth the price in my opinion. Your motor will never be as responsive with the stock flywheel. Unless money is an issue, you might as well upgrade now while you're changing the clutch anyway.

Plain and simple less rotating mass = less parasitic power loss = more power to the wheels = less throttle position = better gas mileage.:waytogo:

just for your guys' info........ when i talked to LCE about their flywheel and mentioned fidanza had theirs for cheaper, they price matched fidanza's for me. i felt better that the LCE was in my truck. not for anything other than the fact i know im getting a good product ive dealt with before. :waytogo:

    Hmmmm, Let's see......

Would a 9lb flywheel be more fun mated to an engine with gobs of torque in the low rpms, or one with gobs of Hp on up in the revs?

Also, could someone post a vid of how a 22r revs with a 9lb flywheel. Preferably showing a free rev, and under load as well.
