Tps will show itself and make the idle go up and down usaully. If the check engine light is on, check the codes. Could be a coil pack going bad. Losing spark through a plug wire. Could be a bad ground strap, sometimes the ignighter module will start going bad. Which is the box on the side of the coil. I had that one happen to me after it rained for a while. I have only the metal inner fenders and it starting sorting out after many times of being soked.

Change the fuel filter!!!! Do that first for sure. i had the excat same problem on my 92 4runner. would idle all day long but as soon as it wnet in gear or reved it up it would bog out and/or stall. I changed the fuel filter and it ran like a dream ever since. If the new filter doesnt work then check the fuel pressure... that will tell u if your pump is bad...

Let us know how it goes!

You might try testing your fuel pump pressure, or even testing your O2 sensor. If it's an O2 sensor it will sometimes go away when you clear the codes but then just come right back. The other thing if it is a mass air flow sensor you can get some cleaner specifically for it and that sometimes does the trick. Good luck.
