hello everyone. i'll give a quick intro and get to business. my name is kris and i hail from las vegas. i got an 89 toyota pickup, 22re, standard cab. i got this truck for a steal($500) and the engine was replaced 30k miles or so ago, so most of it is fresh. rather than pay a mechanic tons of money for something i can conquer on the weekend is why i'm here. i need some help with my power steering and/or 2 stuck pulleys. the picture below will show you what pulleys are stuck. and because of those 2 stuck pulleys, is that why i have no power steering?
The one on your right is the power steering pump. It doesn't have a belt on it. The one closest to the top of the engine is just a belt tensioner but it should spin freely unless there is a bearing or something that is binding up causeing it noe to spin. The one on the bottom is on the crank shaft and you're not gonna be able to spin that one by hand, when your engine is running that pulley does move. I would guess that the bearing went out in the belt tensioner so whoever had it before you just took the belt off instead of replacing the bearing. so if there is no belt on it going around the power steering pump then the power steering pump isn't gonna spin so therefore you're not going to have power steering. I would take the tensioner off and either get a whole new tensioner or find take it off and find out why it's locked up.
I looks as if the tensioner pulley isn't even there. Maybe the inner race is all that is left? Any parts store should have a new pulley and belt for $30 or so. Possibly alot less...
Ok, so I took off what was on the little bracket that holds(and allows you to adjust) the tensioner. The pictures are below. I cleaned everything off and now the little pulley seems to spin freely now. The only problem is that I have no idea if it's spinning how it's supposed to. And I have no idea if something is missing from all of this. Anyone have any pictures on what it is supposed to look like?
ur pully is gone, the one for the tensioner..thats part of the bearing..find a new pully and reinstall it on that bolt and you sould be good to go..
So I need to buy this tensioner pulley in the picture below, correct? - remove the part of the bearing that is still on the bolt, and replace it with the pulley below. Right or Wrong?
And the belt I need... Is the Power Steering/Idler belt the one I need? Any links to websites where I can purchase these parts would be great. Thanks for the help with this stuff already.
I was going to say it looked like the pulley was gone but I couldn't really tell from the angle of your picture.
Here ya go . . . Okay Ill ring in, I love Advance autoparts and heres what I found http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=GOO&MfrPartNumber=49032&PartType=806&PTSet=A http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=12&ptset=A&searchfor=V-Belts Balls in your court now, Good luck, couldnt remember if you said A.C. or not, didnt see it. This is just what I found, if you dont know, call them or another parts supplier and theyll be able to assist you !
Is the A.C. in regards to the pulley or the belt? And what does it determine? I have A/C in the truck, not sure if thats the AC we're talking about. hahah
ALRIGHT... Before I go buy the belt and pulley, I need to make sure I get the right stuff. The pulley I need is: Belt Idler Pulley - yes or no? If the answer is yes, now I need to figure out the specific one; "Comp. Drive" "1pc" "W/O A.P., 1pc" What does A.P. stand for? And for the belt.. Power Steering/Idler V-Belt Power Steering V-Belt or a completely different one altogether?
I just replaced mine last month. you can purchase the pully at your local parts store. Do not lose those screws, you still need them. The power steering idler and the a/c idler have the same part number. Make sure the pully spins freely (without the belt on).
