Ok, finished re-installing my timing chain. Need to know where to set the distributor. Right now it sits TDC, now does the rotor point as close to #1 spark plug wire. I believe that's right, just want to double check.

Preety sure it should be pointing at #1 and be at TDC if all your timing marks and chain are lined up properly. Should also have been in same position before you took it apart.

Ya if you TDC #1 the rotor should point to #1 on the cap. Adjust your timming at operating temp and youll be set...

i know its been covered and your running but i thought id just add a lil more for future refrence...

you want the main pulley timing mark @ 0 deg

the dowell pin on the cam to line up with the mark on the "cam holder"

and the #1 cylinder to be on the compression stroke.

mark the dizzy where the #1 wire goes and install about 2hrs (like a clock) before that point, as you slid it in it will line up.

    cheater method:

    remove plug #1

place your thumb over the spark plug hole and crank the eng clockwise (ALWAYS) when you start to feel pressure as the timing mark lines up with 0 deg on the timing plate you are on the compression stroke.

    That damn O-ring

Somebody should mention about the damn O-ring on a new or rebuilt distributor. I had to replace my distributor because it started making grinding noises. I followed whatever instructions I could find regarding installing the distributor and my rebuilt one just would not go in! So I was forced to open up the valve cover, which was a pain in the ass, so that I can look and see what the heck it preventing me from popping that distributor in and make sure that I was at TDC. Turns out, there was nothing in there that prevents me from getting the distributor in. The only thing left was the damn O-RING! I whacked the distributor housing with a rubber mallet and it was all fine from then on  . I had some doubts about the timing a little bit because I had the thing cranked all the way to the left to get it to 5 degrees with E1 and Te1 shorted. But the engine purrs and runs great so I'm just leaving it as it is.. that damn O-ring!

if the truck your doing in your pic is the one did you JUMPEr the wire and do your timing with a timing light? under your hood should show where you are to jumper. if not your timing aint right yet. if its EFI yiou still have to do it.

    Just a future heads up.:)
