Has any one ever heard of anyone using nissan v6's in a toyota truck, just wondering, not asking if I should use one, I probably know more about these engines than any one on here ive worked on pathifnders, maximas, and 300zx over the last 3 or 4 years constantly, Ive owned 4 or 5 300zxs and built 3 or 4 turbo 300zxs if I recall...

I dont care if people put chevy engines in a ford, nissan in a toyota, toyota in a nissan, I know I will get flak for a nissan in a toyota, but Im a nissan guy with a toyota so lol... Id go 1uz but I cant afford it and its been done before, That is one thing I like is being unique, I could care less about crossbreeding manufactures, but doing something someone has done tons of times annoys me, props to people for their work but not something im into.

These engines take a beating and keep on truckin, They are cheap, since they are in pathfinders and maximas, vans, the pathy ones are the best though. The pathfinder ones and 300zx ones will hold 300-450hp stock never opened, you can get 500hp with headwork.

My plan is vg30 single turbo with a pathfinder transmission, already have one. Probably looking for 250hp, around the same setup that is in my 87 300zx right now, Im upgrading the turbo on mine right now, looking for 400hp out of it, already upgraded the fuel system, chiped stock turbo ecu, Just need a clutch that will hold the power, slips bad in 3rd gear.

Id love to go with dohc vg30, They sound wicked but the engines arnt as strong(as in taking a beating, only 18 headbolts vs the vg30e 26headbolts) but I dont know if they would even fit in this truck, They are wider than the freaking 4.6 cobra dohcs engines.

Not looking to slam this truck, or make it a drag/drift truck, just looking for it to have some nice power and be a nice truck, I dont think the 22r would full fill that like the vg30 will. I love these toyota trucks and love the nissan v6, the toyota v6 looks complicated, I have tons of transmissions and crap for the nissan v6, so its looking good.

Here is the one in my 300zx, bought it for 200 bucks, I put all the turbo stuff on it, put it in my car, upped the boost to 11lbs and my clutch started slipping, but this thing rolls since I put the maxima intake and injectors in it.
160k miles on it, 85 stock engine, 7.8:1 compression. In my truck I will be going for the stock NA compression 9.0:1 the 7.8 engine is slugish untill boost kicks in.

Ill measure the height, My main concern was oil pan, the 18r is like a mid sump type deal, the vg30 is a rear sump, and the maxima vg30s are front sump... so if I can get it far enough back maybe i can use a maxima one. Wont know till I have the 18r out and play around with stuff.

The 30 would be cool but the VH45DE would be the ultimate. I'd hate to think of what I would do to myself with even a stock VH45 under the hood of a well under 3000lb truck... 7000+ RPM? Sickening. I guess if you've already got the six then you're covered but old Q45's are cheap these days. The VH is lighter than the VQ, has all forged internals, six bolt mains, and responds very well to boost. Plus all stock just a tad over 300hp. Wes at Nicoclub put a turbo Z 5-speed behind his with an adaptor. The only downside is that the ethanol in our fuel kills Nissan side-feed injectors. I don't know how the VG's hold up but my Q has lost two injectors in the last 8 months. Don't know about SC but here in WA Q's are plentiful and usually found under 1500. I think Japanese pull-out VH's are about 1500-2k with 50,000 miles on them roughly. The VG is definitely the more practical choice but I thought I'd offer a suggestion since you're looking to do something different. Probably a much larger aftermarket for the VG as well. I just think the VH is a cool motor, and definitely rock solid. Can usually go well over 300k without rebuilds unboosted. In a toyota truck it'd be significantly less to maintain. Either way, I hope you have a healthy tire budget! Good luck!

Looks like a fun swap to me. I'm a big fan of nissan motors. Hell i'd even rock a twin cam ka in a toyota.

read up on it. sounds like a cool idea. i had a plan a while back of using a dakota 2.5 and 5 speed, and using dodge FWD turbo car parts on that motor since they share a similar block design. its a way to have a cheap turbo 4 banger. i like 4s. not a big fan of V6s. i like inline 6s though. good luck with the swap. keep us posted.

Yea the truck has 15 inch tires on it, 15s are easy to get for cheap so its all good. I would go 1uz before vh45, I think the 1uz sounds way better... I couldnt imagen having 300hp in my 300zx, much less a mid 2000lbs truck... crazy.

Well looking at the vq30de in the maximas and I30s from 95 up to 2000s... they make 190-230hp with over 200 torque, cheap to get 250-500 bucks, same price as a vg30e.

They sound better, make more NA power(would be cool to stay away from the turbo for a while), I can use a 350z six speed with it, I can get one of those from 350-800, driveshaft will be around 100 then Ill have to have a custom one made.

Im still researching the vq30de, It is a lot more practical than a vq35 as far as price and wiring, but the 35 is what I want, but the 30 is what ill get. power isnt to far off, a whopping 25hp with the 2000 vq30 and the 2003 vq35 and 51 ftlbs of torque difference. But that shouldnt matter in a 2000-2500lbs truck.

    But I figure
    vq30de
    vq35 6spd trans
    350z driveshaft
    vq30de ecu
vq35 flywheel and clutch (still looking for info if I need these)

LOL I could do a vg30 so easy, my friend has one sitting in my yard no one is probably going to use... Guess sometimes its easier to use what you have. I have 3 spare manual transmissions, spare turbo, spare turbo manifold, spare turbo oil pan, spare turbo ecu, spare turbo injectors, spare everything I need.

I dont know, maybe the cool factor of the exotic sound of a dohc v6 doesnt make up for how cheap I can do a vg30et..... maybe ill do a stack in the rear like this guy and his diesel, heck the vg30 sounds like a diesel sometimes, it is so not smooth at all. L series nissans sound like diesels too

Probably going to start on this after I get a 97 pathfinder I already put 500 down on, waiting on the title to come in since it was a repo then another 300 bucks and its mine, 97 se 4x4 auto, 170k runs great, body needs some tlc, interior is PERFECT

What sucks is I have 70 bucks in this carb on this 18r... Ill probably just rap this engine up good and store it till i find like a corona or a corolla ill stuff it into.

Guess this post was kind of worthless made up my mind just from making it so who knows. Ive gotten better at welding and my friend is taking classes on it so ill make my own engine mounts and trans mount, I have full access to a machine shop where im taking classes at for the whole next year... so resources I have, just need to start on it...

Ill try to get some rough measurements of the vg30 and some measurements of the room in the hilux's engine bay, distance between the frame.
