Got the new turbo in guys and its works a lot better then the last. I have tooken apart the old turbo completely and found lots of burnt oil coaked near the exhaust side bearing. im assuming this one was either defective or my lack or care for the turbo cooling down could have been a reason why. This time around I bored the oil restrictor from .093 to .125 giving the turbo a little more oil this time. Heres some pictures of the install I did with my friend greg at the JHMotorsports shop on sunday. For the guys that dont know who I am, Im the one in the blue long sleeve shirt. This is the loudest bov I have ever heard
Well I fixed it on photobucket but it may take awhile for it to kick in on the rotation lol sorry about that. All I can say is that old turbo had to be crap from the start, this new one is night and day difference. Much more power for sure. Im glad im up and running right again. I almost have enough saved to get the R154 5 speed and the Ford 8.8 rear end cant wait
Nope no squeeks at all. Just a open wastgate scream at WOT its actually a really smooth ride for having solid engine mounts.
The bumper I got from partstrain.com. I love there site , they have cheap good quality stuff. Theres more vids and pics on here somewhere, but I do have more pics. I just noticed how close you live from me. only 45 mins! you should come and see the truck sometime and bring a 2jz with you so we can swap it in yours
what kind of power are you expecting to have with this new turbo after you get everything tuned in? and not to thread jack, but for a lower power goal of say 250-300 (at the crank...its atleast double what i make now) from a 7M, would it be better to do porting and intake exhaust work on an N/A or to just boost the turbo pressure a bit? im thinking a ported n/a work be more responsive than a fairly stock turbo version.
**** man I would love to be able to afford the 2jz swap. In the future that's what I want to do but not yet. You live in Turlock right?
Theres a guy I know with the same turbo set-up tuned on MAP ECU making just under 500 whp. Im pretty sure ill be happy with that but who knows. I want to end up having a 10 sec truck As far as making a little more power out a 7mgte. it will cost next to nothing to get a little more boost and power from that engine rather then spending a ton more on head work. If its a N/A 7m then getting more flow is going to be the route to go. you can go with a small shot of nitrous, cams, get the head milled a bit to get a little more compression, or get some serious head work done. all depends on budget and how you want to go with it. Yes I live in turlock. It took me awhile to get the swap done being that I was making next to nothing at the time so it took awhile to get the swap done but im glad I went this route over installing a turbo on the 22r. I love torque. I was thinking the same thing when I was installing the new turbo. Fortunately the bolts holding down the turbo to the manifold have lock washers. I check the nuts and bolts on this truck a couple times a month and so far the exhaust manifold nuts havent backed out at all. But you are right, I need to get some lock washers on there. BTW im almost ready to swap out the rear end.
How much was the swap overall? I might have to start saving up after I get it bagged an bodied . An how long would it take to do it
I see you or your friend has a busted knuckle lol Nice Rodney! get that rear end in with some tire upgrades and go chase down some vipers! (although they make torque so early it makes me cry...)
all together your looking at almost 7k. It can be done cheaper now that I have done it already and have gone through everything knowing what to look for and do. If I had all the parts and everything ready to go into the vehicle I could pull it off in a week or so. but if you are doing it piece by piece then it will take longer.... much longer You talking about that red mark on my hand? Believe it or not, thats a birth mark. I have had it since day one. but on my right hand I have a narly scare from last year that cost me 2k in stitches The r154 and rear end is coming very soon. just saving the last little bit to get it done all at once.
