the title says it all... I just got back from a very reliable mechanic... the engine is damaged beyond repair internally and I'm too broke to swap... oil was everywhere but in the engine...

I don't know if or when I'll be on here again...

    :cry::cry::cry:

i've already seen that video several times! :D

i was referring to the motor being able to be rebuilt. short of there being a hole in the block a machine shop could make it work.

i completely rebuilt my 2.2l s-10 engine for less than a new engine, and that included a new crank, pistons, rods, everything. it had snapped one rod in two places when the bearing locked up (before i owned it)

I may be getting a newer car... I don't know what yet or if my parents will loan me money to fix it(doubtful), but I'm going to try to swap in another engine in this so I can sell it... getting to be too many bad memories of it.

It didn't die yet... but it still got me home from a 25 mile drive

If I get a new car or truck, I'm going to try to stick with anything that has to do with Toyota though (Scion, Lexus, Subaru or Isuzu)

NOO! tell your parents loan you the money you'll do it yourself and its a good learning experience and them loaning you money will actually save you more money, and c'mon think of it when your driving your boring scion tc and you see a guy come out of the woods and his toyota covered in mud. you'll miss it really bad. trust me dont get rid of it!!! and plus look how far you came already, look at how much toyota knowledge you obtained!! Toyotaholics dont quit!!!

I know... I don't want to lose it, but I am not very mechanically inclined. It turns out I do have WAY too much oil PSI and that caused my blowout today. I don't know what will happen, my dad's taking it upon himself. If I do get a new car, I'd prefer a truck, but that might not be what he'd agree to, which is why Subaru is on my list.

I'll do my best to keep them from junking it or selling it as-is. I care about it too much to let it be crushed or a new victim for Top Gear to test.

Parents aren't budging on letting me keep it...

They want it either sold to someone who can afford to fix it or to a junk yard... hopefully the first one is what occurs.

    I'll miss this truck...

Seriously, if you can change spark plugs you can change engines. If you want I'll go and count the number of bolts that have to be removed. And it is just that simple. Also most of the wires and your sensors are color co-ordinated. The wire w/ the orange clip usually only reaches to one orange plug. The only special tool you need is a hoist, or a steroid body building neighbor will work too. You don't have to remove the drive train or anything. Pull the rad, all the lines to your block and wires, un bolt the trans and the engine mounts, and lift.

Find a good used engine, check around, good deals pop up. Call your local off road shop, you may get lucky, I've picked up fresh rebuilt engines that the owner could not finish paying for. If they have been there, the shop may just the cost of the engine. and ask if anyone has a hoist you can borrow. If the truck means alot to you. then fight to save it. Prepare a plan and present it to him

New car equals - xx,xxx + insurance and registration
Fix old truck equals - xxx for used rebuilt engine, a 12 pack of beer and a weekend we get to spend together.

Also use the economy to you advantage, in this day and age we can't afford to waste money

I'm with JD on this one, you should have no issue finding a usable 22R in your area for a fair price....definitely stick to your guns if you still can. He is entirely correct on how easy it is to pull the motor out and place it back in, if you have a engine hoist...and a few basic metric sockets and some elbow grease.

Too late. My parents are going to sell it or part it out and get me something newer and "safer." I'm not even going to have a say in what it is. Dad claims he saw a small crack in the tranny, and both differentials and the transfer case are leaking, then the f***ed up alignment and horrible paint job... they don't think this thing is worth it like I do. I'll miss the Hilux, but I have no choice... I'm getting something newer and "cheap" (my family isn't the wealthiest in Riverside County, but I've been assured I will not get a Geo Metro - thank God).

    sad to hear man :(

if you part it out can you let me know? i could use a few things :D

to be honest you guys would be better off parting it out...... a dismantler wont give you much at all for it.... its worth more in parts and you will get more money that way out of it. when yer done, just have the scrap yard pick the rest of it up. :waytogo:

^ I second parting it out and leaving the rest for the scrapyard... Think of it like being an organ donor! Your parts might just save a life! :waytogo:
