Finally found one for the right price. Went down to Fresno,ca to pick it up and boy was it covered in so much crud. makes me wonder about how many miles are on it. He says 80k. Anyways for $350 I couldnt go wrong. it came complete with shifter, 7mgte bellhousing (which is for sell if someone wants it), clutch slave w/ hose line, and clutch fork. heres a pic after I cleaned it. R154 with bellhousing removed 7mgte bellhousing off the R154 (FOR SALE)
Did you already have a bellhousing to use? And curious, how long is it from the bellhousing to the driveline? I wanna put on in my dodge.
No I have to fork out 340 dollars for the bellhousing sucks. I measured it the other day. from the end of the stock bellhousing to the center of the shifter was about 23-24 inches. so end to end is about 25-26 inches.
M series and jz motor side bellhousings are different. The w series and r series tranny mount on the bellhousings is also different. For the record, the ax5 used in many domestic trucks is the same pattern as the w's and the bellhousing for an ax15 is the same as the r's. So, to put a r154 behind s smallblock dodge for example, use an ax15 input shaft (same inside/different length and splines), and the bellhousing and clutch setup from a Dakota with the 3.9 v6 of 92ish til the end of the 3.9. Look it up, they are nice replacements for alot of things.
Yeah they are different. the guy had a w58 for sale for 100 bucks that was cherry but one visit to the track would end its day. The next time I do a swap with engine/trans from different vehicles, Im coming to you this is the kind of information that is highly needed for the first timers especially. Good info
Ok, cool! Thanks! Gotta follow along with your build coz, I'm just starting to gather my parts for the swap too...
A few pointers for you. get a 1jz complete with r154 trans. will save you the most money and headaches. make a list of the major expensive stuff then break those down like when you get the engine, write down the stuff you need to do to it before you install it in the truck (ex. timing belt, belts, plugs, coil packs, gaskets, etc..) I recommend buying from www.japanesestarmotors.com or www.driftmotion.com These guys have good low mileage engines and they do leakdown tests before shipping. When your ready to do the swap let me know as I can guide you through the whole thing.
^ 1JZ's seem to be easier to get a hand on also! I think i'd like a 1JZ-GE VVt-i they sound like sex for a non turbo
I dont want to imagine what real sex is like for you...VTEC just kicked in yo! But on a serious note, the 1jz are easier to come across because they were more available and more were made in the supra in japan. 2jz were more of usa made thing.
Is $500 a good deal for a 2JZ VVti 120K running motor + all electronics? My only real fabrication would be the mounts...
took a ton of research to find that out. But their is alot of common swapness to putting a good yota 5 speed behind almost any domestic motor usig facotry parts. That's why I looked up all of it. I wouldn't need anything custom but a driveline and tranny mount. Rest would bolt right up. No custom bushings or parting together a clutch setup.
Is it the turbo or n/a model? is it complete with uncut harness? whats the condition? I recommend not getting the vvti just because if you want to make more power ( And I know you will, its addicting as hell, and thats the point of the swap) its gonna be more in money to strengthen the head. for some reason I see weird dicussions about the vvti. yeah they have great torque range but it doesnt like to be messed with past stock settings. You'll be doing more fabrication work other than the mounts for the trans and engine. not as drastic but some. I would save the money and get the 1jz complete with harness, turbos, trans, etc.. like this one here http://www.japanesestarmotor.com/jdm_engines/23/Toyota_toyota_supra_1jz_gtte/
It's the non-Turbo model... I've heard alot about the VVti not being a good platform, so I guess I'll let the deal go... Thanks!
Get the turbo jz engine if your doing the swap. you'll save lots of money and time that way. you'll thank me later. and your welcome
the more i do the research on this swap the more i see that everyone says the 1jz is the easier swap than the 2j.... why is that tho? isint it the same mounts for the 2 and the same overall length of the engine? i know the height is a bit different... but if i could get all the parts needed (2jz, r154, bellhousing, harness etc...) whats the major difference in installing the engine? thanks
Not to thread jack, but since you guys were talking about the JZ's, I think it's funny how we usually get the watered-down versions of JDM cars out here and how it was the just the opposite for the JZA80 Supras, WE got the beast!
