I'm trying to find a 22RE for my '94, but not having much luck. I did come across a complete low-mileage engine, trans, wire harness and ECM from a '97. Are there enough similarities between these parts and mine to be worth the trouble? I need this truck up and running as quickly, cheaply, and easily as possible. Diving into a wire harness marriage is not an option.
but considered an upgrade. it is possible, you can have fun mounting it, will be an I4 swap of course, and just make sure the transmission can match. But yeah, definitely different motor.
a 2rz or 3rz is a VERY worthy swap. basically the same motor cept dual overhead cam and comes out of the box with more poneys. if you get the whole harness the swap shouldnt be that hard, just need to spilce in your creature comforts to the new harness.
If you do this, post about it! Sorry to thread jack, but I would like something with more hp in mine and I'd like to stick with a four cylinder. Really a DOHC in those first gen Tacomas? sounds sick!
That's my concern. I know it's an entirely different motor, but as far as physical fitment, I'm sure I can handle that. I'm an ornamental iron fabricator, so mounts would be a snap. I'd swap the engine and trans, and adjust the driveshaft length and U-joint type as needed, if necessary. I just don't know about the wiring- what should stay, what should go, what original wiring in my truck can "simply be reconnected" to the new motor/ECM, etc. I want my gauges to work like stock and not have any check engine lights. If I need to piggyback the '97 ECM, that's fine. I guess what I really need to know is has this been done and documented somewhere. Like I said before, I just want to get this truck up and running reliably as quickly and cheaply as possible. Good, affordable 22REs are kinda hard to come by around here, and someone just offered me this '97 drivetrain. So, I thought I'd entertain the thought and do some research. I'm planning an LQ4 swap in my S10, and there are pre-made plug-and-play wire harnesses and mount kits for this. I wonder if there's something similar in the Toyota world for a newer 4-cylinder into older truck? It's starting to look like I should just keep my nose to the monitor and track down a 22RE and be done with it.
22re? I've got the 22re that came out of krazedprof's truck, he traded it for the 302 we're putting in it.
oh, it's got 55000 miles, 5spd, and I've got the whole loom except the taillight harness, I was thinking of putting it in a camaro but I'd sell it too
sure has been done,do some research on yotatech http://www.yotatech.com/f158/ http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475469
