Different alternator

    81 long-bed goodness
    Ok, so the alternator went out on the toyota. I take the old one off,"PITA" And goto the parts store.
    I get there and plop the dead one on the counter.
    We looked through 4 years of trucks and could not find a match to what i had.....
    mine is an 81, he looked up all the ones from 79 to 83 and could not find a match.
    But, the one he had for the 81 had a big green plug on the rear. and i remembered that my truck had a short adapter that looked the same on one end as that one.
    So i bought it and sure enough, it fits.
    So what im asking is....What was on my truck????

    Was just wondering if this is normal, cause it confused the parts guy..lol

    There is no adapter bracket. It fits exactly as it should.

    could be a upgrade maybe, any pt #'s on the old one you can attempt to look up?

    some places have picture catalogs you can flip through.

    this is one you'd find on a early 20r. 50 amp

    That explanes why it sucked at keeping my voltage up....lol
