Ok, need some help. I want to change my 22r to a 22re. I am tired of the carburetor junk that is in there, and the 22re I already know performs way better. A 1jz would be lovely, but I don't wanna spend the money on that just yet. Too worried about bags, body drop, and a few other things. What do i need, whats the best way to go about it. I can't find a lot of info on this anywhere. Thanks
If your going to do that then I would try to find a doner vehicle/truck with the engine, tranny, wiring harness & computer. If thats not possible or an option then try to find a salvage yard or junk yard that doesnt remove the engines from their vehicles. That way your able to see everything & you know what your getting. When I installed the newer 22RE engine in my 91 I bought it from TAP-(Toyota Auto Parts)...I told then what I was doing & they made sure to send me what I needed.
Yes...its a salvage yard that specializes in Toyota, Scion & Lexus parts only. They can be pricey on some stuff, but Ill say this...if you want/need something then they will have it lol.
What did you end up spending on the parts from TAP? Just curious, trying to gauge what I'm going to end up spending kinda.
Ok I got the following from TAP... 1) low milage-(52,000 miles) 1995 22re engine w/accesories: $1000 2) 5-speed tranny with all components for manual swap: $350 3) 5-speed (2-piece) drive shaft: $175 4) shipping: $350 *Included with the engine was the wiring harness & engine computer. I didnt need the harness cause I already had a 22re in my truck to start with. The only thing I had to do was swap out the fuel injectors from the 95 model engine to the 91 model cause my harness plugs were different & TAP sent me those as well too. Im sure you can find a engine for cheaper, but I got tired of looking & not being able to find anything that didnt have 100,000 miles or more on it!!
I have a 22re motor from an 88 pickup that I'm removing from my truck. One of the rod bearings is bad and it knocks really bad. It would need the crank reground and new bearings. The motor has 150,000 miles. I am replacing it with a carbed motor so I can part with the computer intake and everything. If your interested in it let me know. Its a little bit of a project but it would save you a good bit of money. PM me or something and we can talk about price and shipping if you want.
another option is to buy just buy the intake and computer. You should be able to just swap the intakes on yours. I believe you will need a few other things like an electric fuel pump. (I need mine)
