Went to the local pick-n-pull and scored big time. Had my buddy give me a hand today and went looking for the almighty ford 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears and posi. I found one complete with rotors, calipers, the works for 200 bucks and also got the driveshaft end. It has only 108,xxx miles on it and everything seems cherry. its out of a 2000 ford explorer and I believe it was one of the cash for clunkers. motor was all messed up but everything else was nice about the car. Here are some pics.

    clutch
    flywheel
    bellhousing

Yes they are haha. Ill just drive in reverse. it will stop better ;)

Ok some goggling and what not found a page on ranger station that tells me everything. So get you in and let us know how it works. I think this upgade is next on my list.

Also what are you doing for a brake cycliner? I read that our will not work and to grab the one from the explorer.

All the ford explorers had them from 94-00 look for the disk brakes and leaf springs first. then look at the metal identification tag bolted on the housing cover, look for 3L77 which is the gear ratio and L meaning it has posi. get the whole axle complete disc to disc. and check the mileage

I think he meant you need to upgrade the master cylinder and brake booster. This is the case when swapping full size chevy axles under a yota so I wouldn't be surprised.

So its 1-2" wider than the pre taco rear end, so would that mean it would be around the same size as a taco rear end?

Sorry to ask, its just i have a 00 taco, and of course posi and disc brakes would be sick.

soon enough. have to get a few things for the trans because I will doing trans swap as well.

Im not sure how wide the tacoma rear end is but im sure its not a big enough difference to matter. If there is, hopefully when swapping it out your in the market for some wheels and tires :D

    Thanks, me too:)

    8.8 Rear

I am considering doing this, but just dont like the idea that the differential is offset.

Anyone know of another option that might be low cost to install?

Here's the deal; I am located in the midwest. My 89 Toyota 2wd pickup has been hit in the rearend. The rear end is bent. I want to get anything with 5 lugs under it.

    -Any advice is appreciated.
