K ive asked this before but in another thread, right now my truck has an electric fuel pump rigged up to a switch, the fuel pump says FACET on it so im assuming thats the brand. My truck is very hard to start, have to pump gas several times and the pump is loud. Should i just get a new electric fuel pump they might be better or should I get a stock replacement one, the original is still mounted to the motor but guess it took a crap, not sure which route to go, was there anything wrong with the stock fuel pumps? as far as reliability and all I mean

if the electric pump sits above the bottom of the fuel tank it wont work right i would check that first but me i would try and find a stock replacement

My 1970 truck has the same thing. I beleive (but could be wrong) there is a one way valve in the carb. On my truck I have to let the electric pump run for a minute before my truck will start. My pump is on the firewall with no issues.

Not entirely true. mine is next to my engine. takes about 1-2 sec before seeing fuel but pumps it with no problem. its recommended to have it below the tank so your pump does not burn up due to lack of fuel and to not cause a lean condition to the motor having lack of fuel.

Look at the pics to my truck on the driver side. could have located to the rear but got anxious to start the truck. still works and easy access

Go with the oem. if you have it wired to a switch make sure you have a inline fuse (20amps) and its going to a strong 12v source. other wise you risk damaging the pump from lack of power. yes fuel pumps not getting a strong enough 12v can be damaged more then if you had 8-9volts. and having the fuse is for obvious reasons so you dont short the pump.

i use the facet brand, they are really loud when they arnt full of fuel. normally i turn the truck on, wait for the pump to quiet as it primes the line. then pump a couple times and start.

do you have a filter inline before the pump?

if its properly mounted (near tank) and has a good connection, id blame a flow issue. either the pump is clogged, you have a pinched line or a fuel filter is bad.

i had one on fender, it worked some what good.. i remouted it on the pass side on the back of cab...its loud but runs good...check all your lines for air leak/ gas leaks also...another thing..iv notice on my 86 theres like two lines...one out and one return...plug the return line...plug the returns under the hood...run a regulator and gauge and if you can run 3/8 lines itll help also...i have no problems at all with my holley blue pump. did alway with mechanical pump being i couldnt mount it to my new 22re to 22r swap engine.

I gots no truck, for now
i have one.. love it. its a lil loud if it bled down a little but nothing crazy. I did have one short out on my for some reason. replaced it never had a problem again. I dont get what killed the first one, dont really care either. plus if you are running a weber, webers like nice steady fuel pressure. the mechanical pumps are all over the place.
