how would be the best way to flip my hood like corvette would the old bmw hinge work or what would be the best ones for my 91 as it will be going to my buddies soon and getting the lights in and some other things done
i've been wondering the same thing. i'm thinking about doing it to the hilux. i seen a couple 90's cars (buick i believe, might have been oldsmobile) that had reversed hoods. looked like a basic hinge that bolted to the core support. thats what i was planning on trying.
diagram for the BMW's ...well the e30 like I have. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=1554&mospid=47321&hg=41&fg=35 I would personally think a little more reinforcement (from twisting) would be needed on the pickup.
look at first gen chevy luv trucks. they have forward flipping hoods. i do not remember if they tucked into the nose or out in front of it. but, the latch is dead center and at the back. by the cowl. that aspect is simple either way.
AutoLoc sells a kit for this with the option of adding a motor and remote control for it. The also sell suicide doors, gullwing doors, lambo doors, power window kits, split hoods and more. www.autoloc.com
Here are a couple links to the buick style one. (not on a toy though sorry) http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f199/1st-gen-suicide-hood-how-to-redone-with-new-pics-145615/ http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f199/suicide-hood-hinge-how-to-41253/ I like the idea of the isuzu/chevy luv style too. Also old international scouts had them. Back in the 80's we used trunk hinges.
Park ave. late 80's early 90's park ave's have a good slide and tuck, i use the to flop trunk lids quite a bit
I don't like the idea of american car parts on my toyota, but I am definitely going to try the buick hinges. because I can always count on Buick's.. being in the junk yard
It's easy, did it on my 72. Hardest part is getting the receivers correct at the rear. The buick hinges use the stock latch. The BMW works differently but looks the same opened. I would make hinges like on a C1 corvette but then you got to come up with some kind of latch on the rear. It would also be BA to use a set off newer car trunk hinges to open it. -Ryan
Now that is a sexy beast I'm doing this to my s-10 as well....might as well work on it while its parked.
