LC Engineering finally has a kit to remove your flapper door air meter and and tune your 22re. I am aware TCR originally came out with the kit, but they hardly ever update their website. LC claims 12hp and 23lbs of torque to the wheels on a bone stock 2wd. ..and for the people like me in California I would think if tuned properly you should be able to smog better then stock.... I don't think a smog guy would notice a different style meter then stock as long as your wiring is clean and have a stock air box or CARB legal intake. In comparison a SDS kit would require you to block off your egr and such. I am sure a good amount of power is gained just by pulling that crap off, but no way in hell are you passing smog without it.
Congrats but definitely not worth $1,000. I rather put a V8 in there for that price or at least money for a 7MGE or something like that. If the kit was $500 then that would be reasonable. Please do a write up if you can. I know these little 22R's have some horsepower. I had an 87 lifted 2wd which was carb'd and it had a TRD cam, Downey header, full exhaust (no cat) and gears and that thing was a little rocket for what it was. It woke the engine right up. James
I agree that a motor swap would be better use of money.. but I live in California where my truck would leave on a tow truck and get crushed if a cop ever looked under my hood and saw that. Highway patrol even has a mobile smog station and set up checkpoints to make sure your car blows clean.
Time to change location then. Seriously I don't think more than 2 or 3 of my friends could live over there, just due to their cars.
its deffinately a sweet upgrade. albeit the cost does outweigh the gain of just that, but it offers more potential. being that alot of the other cars used the same style setup, like some of the M series supra motors, it might be a useful part for those.
stick this is your pipe and smoke it the first picture... The MAF bracket is very heavy duty 1/4 steel and the housing for the sensor is cnc'd aluminum. The FTC-1 looks like it could withstand being ran over and you cant go wrong with a genuine toyota sensor and k&n filter. the only thing I don't like is that for some reason the bare plug for the MAF is white I can always count on 2 things from LCE, Getting the highest quality parts for my yota, and spending more money then I anticipated.
I'm actually in the process of installing the same kit. I've been fed up with failures of the stock VAF meter, but this kit has been just as much of a pain in the ass. It came with pretty crappy instructions and no wiring diagram. I did get the wiring diagram sent to me, but half the wires don't even match what's on the truck. Then there's a whole bunch of parameters and setup options in the tuning program that the instructions don't specify what they should be set to. The project is on hold for now since I have other things I need to get done.
I compared all the wiring to my factory service manual and quite a bit of it is different. I get along with wires better then most people so im not worried about that . I am concerned as to where the hell I am going to stick this big ass box John at LC told me is should run out of the box without plugging in a laptop. My shop is less then 10 miles from split second so I just need to get it there where I will let the people that made the software tune it.
Wow, must be nice to be that close to the shop. I have everything wired up for now, but all it does is run for 3 seconds and then die. I just need to call up LC and ask a bunch of questions, but it's a bit tricky due to the time difference and my work schedule.
wow this thing is a pain the ass. My truck sounds amazing but it runs like sh!t... I have had it at split second for about a week now letting them tinker with it while they are slow. I am so glad they are close to me. I don't advise anyone too far from santa ana california or lake havasu to try this kit yet. and now for some mandatory pictures. before.. Who likes wires? I like wires. especially important wires that control your fuel injection
and the temporarily finished product until I can modify the downey intake to fit again. and yes,I know my filter is upside down
I almost forgot about the motor mount I broke almost immediately after the install. and a picture comparing my new LCE soft urethane mounts vs the fubar old aftermarket rubber peice of doo doo
I have a 2jz with a screaming t67 and 50mm wastegate and look at where im located oops did I say that out loud 747 preparing for takeoff
