hey guys... i gotta 87 toyota been and trying to find the best way to lower my truck im sure theres plenty of ways... i dont want the stock stance but just a little lower what do yall prefer?
Welcome to TM! Have any pics of the truck? I recommend using drop spindles in the front. You'll maintain most of your factory ride. I did Belltech 2" drop spindles in front, 3" blocks in back, & Toxic drop shocks all the way around.
Can't forget the ball joint flip!!! That's the number one best free mod IMO. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3217&highlight=ball+joint+flip Then if you are on a budget take out your middle leaf from the spring packs in the rear. If you have a few bucks buy some blocks for the rear. These are the best low buck ways to get started. The ground is the limit from there.
your supposed to get an alignment after any suspension adjustment. i don't.... i just deal with the crappy tire wear.
hell yea... kinda short on cash but ima make it work... ima get some pics on here soon kinda ugly but work in progress
In that case I'd highly recommend doing a ball joint flip and lowering the torsions combined with removing the middle leafs in the rear. Total cost: $00.00 Add some lowering shocks if you have $160 or so as that is an investment you will want with basically any type of lowered suspension you go with in the future.
It is really that simple. The torsions can be a bit of a pain to get adjusted. You might want to trim the bumpstops down in the rear so it doesn't bottom out so easily, but yeah, that's one of the great things about Toyota minis. They have some great cheap tricks you can use on them.
I didn't bother flipping mine. You might want to flip it if you are concerned about keeping your steering geometry as close to stock as possible, but with the level of drop you are going to have you are not going to be binding the knuckles or anything, I really don't think it matters if you flip the upper or not. It doesn't matter for drop. Just the lower control arm that is attached to the torsion affects ride hieght.
The ball joint flip is just gravy on top of whatever drop you get from the torsions. It doesn't hinder ride quality at all and doesn't make you bottom out any quicker. If nothing else, flipping the lower ball joints would be .75" less you'd have to lower the torsions to maintain a better ride.
