so as some of you may know, been working hard on my lolux project as of late with the motor build. well........ tonight as i had just finished installing and hooking up the last few parts to the motor, i started placing water into the radiator to actually fire it up.

after a few minutes, no leaks everything was cool. then, Al looked under and called to my attention water under the motor...... after looking about under it i confirmed it and saw that water has started leaking from the head gasket. i kid you not guys, my heart dropped to my stomach in a great ball of fire and litterally left me stunned i didnt have any other reaction...... my buddy allan tried talkin to me and i was just at a loss for words.

letting it sink in....... after about 20 minutes, i swear i felt it was breaking my heart and my eyes got watery.................................

total k.o. to my mechanical ego and pride. im not sure whats gonna happen at this point........ i have countless hours and money spent into this motor build. i cant belive this happened. i need to run a few tests to verify the issue but as some of you may speculate from where the water is coming from, this is gonna be a head seating issue wich means i need to pull the head. im not sure i have any funds, time, or for that matter confidence left in myself to do this.

as of tonight i am just planning to fix my 240 wich punctured a radiator so i can drive it to work on monday as i have no other means of transportation.

my truck is in limbo............. im not sure where im going from here............. im downright depressed. it may seem stupid, pointless, or whatever you wanna call it for me to be in this mood but, this is where im at.

I hope you remembered to bolt it all down too...

    idk, you mightve missed something.

Good luck man, if you cant do anything with it, I agree for you to keep it in the garage til you figure out how to fix that last crucial step you missed.

:(Damn man, that really sucks! I feel for you. I seriously hope that somehow it is something simple but if not don't let it get you too down. You can pull that head off and redo the gasket. You will get it figured out. Just a couple days set back.

yea...... just to verify, the toyota FSM said 60 or 65 ft. lbs. for the headbolts.... that sound right to you guys??

still, even torqued down to 65 it would be enough to seal right?? has anyone ever run into this?? im gonna need to do a compression check and see what hapens....

    thank you, thank you....... :D

me............................. well that and i used good wrench to torque down the head, did not use the copper sealer. as i studied the first HG, it looked like it had not mixed well when i shook it up and built up "high spots in the HG.... i may have taken too long to torque it down and those high spots ended up possibly preventing a good seal...... soo....

    sick man!!! :headbang:

btw.......... i wont be showing up alone.. :waytogo:

since the lolux is making its marked debut ill be rollin deep, entourage status

:doah: damn it!!! i knew the 240 was getting a little jealous sitting in the background

    Nice, clean work AL!!

The last time i had water seeping after a rebuild was my first experience with the MLS headgasket... Brand new head on a used block... Apparently the block wasn't smooth enough and I guess my drill and wire wheel wasn't good enough either, that's where the fel-pro's kick in... LOL!

So i know the feeling man... But, we learn from our mistakes eh... :waytogo:

yes, definately. it was a leariing experience for sure. i also used a cheap torque wrench and i think thats where half my issues was........

ive built 5 of these motors, 6 including this one but this was my first one solo. also, this one i had to do on my own here at the house using tools i only had here to my disposal. each one was a learning experience but it had been a good 3 years since my last build..... and i tend to forget more than i can remember sometimes :D

    thanks man......

ok...... so me and my buddy Mac were discussing what i had originally anticipated the motor build to cost...

i had told him that i originally anticipated $1500 total from the minute i tore it down till the moment i fired it off.......

you guys wanna guess on the variation amount?

considering here is what i did......

    -block resurfaced, bored, honed.
-complete rebuild kit, (gaskets, pistons, everything needed to put it all together again)
-1 replacement head gasket for the one i initially goofed
-brand new H.O. cylinder head including cam
    -new oem toyota water pump
    -new oil pump
    -new timing set w/steel guides
-dual electric fans and thermo kit
    -egr block off kit
-open air cleaner kit with k&n filter and adapter
    -new LCE lightweight flywheel
    -new LCE short shifter
    -$100 buffer for minor essentials.....

take a good guess as to what i ended up finding out i spent and ill post up later :waytogo:
