ok so this guy was telling me the other day that the 8.8 ford rearends are pretty much a direct swap into our trucks can anyone verify this

only reason i ask is because it is the same rearend that they had in the GT mustangs with rear disk and LSD and they are plentyful around here can pickup for 150-200 bucks all day long and same 5X4.5 lug pattern....

width will be the biggest issue. and they might not all have the same rear end ratio. if you have the 8" rear end, you can swap the lsd from a supra into your housing and can use the rear discs from the same car. 3rd gens. 87-92.

nothing is "direct swap" when coming from another brand vehicle.

the u-joint desighns are different and likely the flanges wont line up or fit.

    width will likely be different.

gear ratio's are gonna hinder you since they use real high rear end ratios in most of those rear ends for highway milage. keep in mind a v8 usually turns those gears.....

also, you will need conversion hoses for the brakes made, or at least one that feeds the "T".

also, if you have taken a look at any 8.8 internally, they are built VERY anemicly....... and quite disappointing compared to the size of the toyota axle bearings and such.

sure, the LSD and disks are there but, how much is it gonna cost you to be able to "bolt" this in? might wanna look at cost vs. convenience.

your axle already fits and is bolted in. go find a supra LSD or buy a truetrac...... disks are really not necessary for better braking power. if you want better brakes, concentrate on the fronts.... just my 0.02 :waytogo:

or gear it, buy a detroit, bolt in downey offroads rear disc kit for toyota trucks and never think about it again, in a perfect world. i dont think it will fit, i know jeep guys use ranger 8.8 as a cheap upgrade in the yj's, same width, just weld on plates, change yoke and go.:waytogo:

im doing this swap almost done really. i made a adapter to go from the ford flange to toy drive line and got new u bolts made and the brake fittings are like 7 bucks.

so 150 for rear 7 for brake lines 40 for ubolts and nuts. 8 dollars for a drill bit to open the holes on the stock plate for the u bolts 4 dollars for socket screws for adapter all in all ill be in the rear swap for about 250sih not bad for a stronger rear.

they are 1.5 wider per side and either spacers or custom wheels for it. i went with gt wheels and they fit no problem. 255-45-17s . im doing air shocks on the rear after i build a cross member for the bad to mount them on and also to the axle where the antiroll bar mounts. ill take pics .

the rear is out of a 01 explorer. b and r in eugene has like 50 of em.

9" might not fit its kinda close right now with the 8.8 to the tank unless you bang or move the tank.
