so, shoNuff mentioned his wagon has the same front suspension as his hilux. that got me to thinking, because i would love to see some supra 4 spokes on my truck. solid rear axle and front suspension being seemingly similar, could i swap spindles and rear ends to get a 4 lug setup? and shoNuff, what is the width of the rear end in your car? mine i read was right about 53" narrower would be nice to tuck the wider style. and i am gonna try and do a quickie photoshop of the idea.
well, this took about 20 minutes. but i did it in paint. i also shaved my side markers, cab vent, mirror holes and extended the bedsides. and i know the wheel proportions arent totally right....but i kinda like it. i might have to try this out. yes, i shaved stuff in MS Paint. haha. i love the fuzzy spray can and the color point select. in all reality i probably wouldnt shave the side stuff, but will extend the sides. here is with the lights and vent
i will get measurements on my spring perches. but really thats the only issue keeping it for a bolt on deal, but my wagon is a 74. they had a leaf sprung 4 lug axl in wagons up till 83ish, same with rolla's but to 80ish i think. van's also cam with a 7in? 4lug rear end, but most every way i bet you'd do some welding to a spring perch somewhere. important bit is finding the right axl legnth, with a rolla axl you could run some dish tucked i bet. fronts are bolt on, might be camber issues built into the spindels tho. im having issues just bolting on struts to my celica but thats another story, havent done it yet to confirm/deny its 100% for sure. need a extra 5lug axl and a welder to find out ps: http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2816
welding new perches in is no biggie. i have a set of privia lower bars, and some 4runner lower bars, if i go lower, its gonna be a 3 link (4runner bars into an upper link, ill get a 3rd to have enough tube). i was more concerned about the front. and camber is okay. lol. i have lots...for a static drop anyways. on something that isnt a ford. haha. if it sounds somewhat doable, ill start taking notes at the junkard. and yeah, i would need the narrowest rear end i can find. that pic was a chopped version that was my old 16s. 225/50/16, 7" wide +40. barely cleared front and back. so thats why 14x6 fronts and wider rears. its something different, and keeps it yota. even the 4 link. lol.
same wheel bearing would possibly mean interchangable rotors. hmm...i need to measure this out for sure now. i might be able to just swap hubs. did they ever have a vented rotor for that suspension? mine are solid? i have some 95 4runner calipers. 4 piston
what i do is look stuff up on napa because they have alot of tech info with the parts, and then go onto schucks to do this "see what else this fits" okay, so corollas til 87 and coronas from 68-70 have the same inner. and toyotas of tons of years used the same out. not to mention, like half of gm stuff ever. so, a corona rotor from that certain year may fit, it could just be that the outer half of the truck bearing on the outer is larger, but has the same size inner hole....if that makes sence. or...swap spindle. haha.
lolz i use www.toyotarefrence.com atuozone n rock auto, gonna check out napa. ya i bet money its the same ID, its already confirmed that 82-85 celica's and supra's, most cressida's use the same ID for the inner and outer. so there is a 11in 4 lug vented disc at the junkyard waiting... course thats if trucks or corona's have the same ID.
i could swap to the later spindles if i flip the lower balljoint. and would do that if need be. but id like to just see what rotor i can toss onto this. and, nvm...i almost asked a really dumbass question. almost asked if the 14" supra wheel would clear that rotor....its from the same car the wheel is from...so yeah, probably. my bad. hahaha. ill just hit up pull a part tomorrow and make measurements of a bunch of spindle studs. making a caliper bracket for my 4 pistons is fine. and if i have to grind pads down so they fit on a wider rotor than it came from, thats fine too. lol.
actually thats not a dumb question at all... the cressida 11in rotor needs a 15in wheel, thats why i searched and searched until i found a set of 15in supra wheels. pretty killer write up on the cressie brake swap http://www.tscperformance.com/supra_bigbrake.htm
ill take some measurements and notes at pull a part today. gotta clean the house a bit first. and out away all my emptys
Well I did a bunch of screwing around at pull a part. It seems the 79-83 spindles would bolt on, if I swapped them left to right. The later ones had lower ball joints that aim up. That's nice to know. These have front tie rods, mine aim back. I tried putting van rotors and celica rotors on but that didn't work. I thought about modifying the hub of a 5 lug to take a 4 lug rotor but eff that. I did measure a bunch of axles but they are all too wide. I'd have to try rollas that are older. On a good note, going along with the 79 spindle, they have an RV version. It had a different caliper and rotor, but the hub it bolts to is the same and so is the spindle. It's different by being a little smaller diameter but it's thicker and vented. So I may atleast swap to those for now. Or try a later model rotor on my spindle since it seems alot of wheel bearings cross over. Napa will love me playing micrometer with tons of different parts. Haha. Maybe I will measure corona bearings vs hilux.
