well, what i did is to take anything that has a vacuum line off, follow it and remove it. EXCEPT leaving one line to the distributor and the large one to the brakes. all the other vacuum trees were replaced with pipe plugs. i also took the air pump off (its under the a/c pump and has big rubber lines) plus anything attached to it. the stock water choke line from the intake and from the block i removed and plugged. one with a pipe plug, the other with a block off plate (its between the 2nd and 3rd intake runners). for the egr, i made a block off plate. for the fuel line, mine comes up to the filter and into the carb. i use the port aiming to the passenger side, but will possibly swap to the other side to clean it up a bit. the air pump lines run to the exhaust manifold, i took that metal line at the manifold and cut it, then bent it over itself so it capped off. worked fine til i got a header on there. then i put a couple selt tapping screws into the holes it would go to.

i think thats all of it, but probably not. also, "20r carb" or something thread in faqs i put pics of some manifold changes i made. id suggest the same if you can.

for that top plate of the body, its just a few screws and it comes off? no clips or anything jumped out at you? or are supposed to if anybody knows? i wanna cut my choke horn off. id rather trade air flow path for cold starts. it doesnt get that cold here anyways. lol.

just take the butterflys out for the choke, stock carbs dont like to be F'd with too much.

you've already done more work to the stock carb then i ever would, its so much easier just to get a weber, that you can change jets on with ease.

    they look WAY better too.

I found my 77 TOYOTA Mini on Craig list. I love this truck. Are you going to restore your truck? What do you have in mind?

Ok guys, did some more work today. I installed the new carb today and hooked up all of the linkage, pretty straight forward install, pretty smooth excepted i dropped one of the allen head bolts in the intake manifold! but with the help of some clear tubing and a strong magnet i got it out and in it's place. I also pulled a direct drive starter off of one of my celica's and threw it off, is there any advantage over either direct drive and off set? Just kinda curious, I pulled the offset drive one off and put a direct drive on. I am pretty sure that the aftermarket A/C compressor doesn't work. The compressor may work though the starter could not turn it when the belt was hooked up, but their is no freon, but are these units any good? is there any chance i can get it working again? Well after that my wife and I had crank, air, spark, but no fuel. Rock Auto pulls up 5 different inline pumps and only one in-tank I can get a in-tank fuel pump for 60 bucks and Auto Zone. Is it easy to hook up an in-pump? are there any advantages? My idea of what happened is this: The guy gets this truck for is son who drove it for a little while, then the fuel pump died and it stopped running, they guy then suspected the carb was the reason it would run but not stay running. The guy pulled the carb and left it there for awhile, tried turning it but no luck because the starter gears got smashed. Thus, he gave up and sold it to me for cheap. So when i get some feed back from you guys about the pump I think i will have this thing running in no time.:clapping:

gear reduction starter, use that. i think its the one you called offset, its like 10lbs lighter then the big one. old motors can use either kind, newer ones can only use the gear reduction.

just go to your local Mc Auto Parts and by a cheapy inline fuel pump, F in tank. then slap it as close to the tank and as low as possible.

looking for a 3-5ish psi pump, talking maybe $50

the compressor, is good for something...

you can easily mod it to be a on board air system, will fill a 35 to 30psi in about 3min.

or you could use it as ac, and swap over to that new freon stuff. but it sounds like its siezed anyway.

i have a weber. i meant is it going to shot out any small clips/springs/parts if i take the top hat off? ive had a few carbs apart before and none of that has, but i wanted a heads up if there is. i only kept a stock carb for about a week then i got it fixed.

awesome. thanks. thats what i figured. ill probably do my choke cut tomorrow then, and make my double stack air filter. ill show you, and can make a list of the things to do for the air filter mod if you like it. its basically the 2-1/2" element and the 1-3/4" stacked with long studs and nuts instead of clips.

well, i decided to take the top of my weber off today and cut the choke horns off. i carefully took it apart and still have all my choke stuff. im going to order up a jetting kit when i have a little extra money. i can feel its getting more air in, and hear it for sure. but i need to rejet it, my idle screw is now running best at 5-1/2 turns out, before was about 2-1/2 or 3. so, it deffinately needs more fuel on the idle circuit. id assume on the others as well. ill get things figured out. still runs good, just has a hair less pull at the moment. sounds like a vacuum though :D

Hey guys thanks alot for all of the birthday wishes!

Standardbyker88 do you have more pics of your truck and project?

There have been alot of changes in life these last few days, I was going to work on the truck today but I found out a very very dear friend of mine had past away in a car accident. It is a sad reminder of how dangerous Cars and Trucks can be. Please be safe out there guys both in driving and Modding and always check your work I would hate to hear of one of you guys getting hurt while doing what you love.

that really sucks. losing somebody hurts, and all i can say is hopefully they went out without too much pain and suffering. best wishes to those who are effected.

and i can get a picture of the carb tomorrow. ill be doing a couple more mods to it. stacking air filter elements and bolting the lid on. the truck looks about the same as it does in the lowering thread or the 4 lug swap. its on steelies and i took off bumper feet, rear bumper, mirrors, mud flaps, ect. pretty stock overall.

So I decided to keep the truck as stock as possible. I picked up a stock replacement pump and screen. I drained the gas, it smelled terrible!!!! It smelled like varnish, thankfully it was less than a gallon of gas in the tank, this was a major plus because the gas gauge said full. After dropping the tank, I pulled out the pump assembly. And man what a sight.!!

The screen and pump were completly caked with this black junk, there is no wonder why this pump failed, the screen so clogged with junk it most likely starved the pump. When I pulled the old screen off, a molasses type of goo came out.
The float was totally stuck in the full position thus the false reading.
the guy that put this pump in wrapped the wire around the float, never allowing it to go to the empty settting!:brickknock:
after working the float i was able to get it moving freely. and i pulled the cover off and cleared the rust off the hinge and wire brushed the contact points, you can see on the left "before" and after on the right

here is the new pump and screen installed, the the assembly partially cleaned up.

    I have some questions though

Is this T supposed to be here?

Does this look odd? The Left circled wire was unplugged when i got it out, it looks like a gound but it is connected to where the float reading is taking place. What should i do here?

    Thanks guys!:clapping:
