im about to do a tune up on my truck. its been sittin for about 6 months, but i've been running it about once a week. i have to start driving it daily now. what plugs should i run? i believe it has 4mm wires on it. would it be cool if i bumped them up to 6mm? and what brand for those? i've heard good things and bad things about that lukas oil treatment, what do ya'll think? what else should i be on the look out for? any info would be great.
    mike.

Use NGK-R plugs and some MSD 8 mm wires. The lucas oil treatment is some good stuff. also run a tank of premium through it with some fuel treatment as well.

i only run premium gas. i know its a little more expensive, but thats the only gas i have ever run in any of my vehicles. and 8mm plugs? thats double the size from stock. will i not run into any problems?

    thats 8mm wires;)

there is no reason to run high test gas on a stock engine. it was meant to run low grade gas and unless you have super high compression all your doing is throwing money out your tailpipe.

ive never noticed a difference in the motor with any treatment in the oil, and ive also heard mixed reviews about the lucas oil treatmeant.

my bad, i meant 8mm wires. anyways. wouldnt running a wire size double the original send to much energy to the plug?

it sends a bigger amount of energy means bigger spark, burns more of the gas...

    hmm . . .

I run NGK plugs and 6mm wires, I got them from Summitracing.com. Mind you I havent dyno D' or tested engine performance, but it still runs perfect and seems less hesitant on acceleration, but, that couldve been just the general tune-up. Having that in mind I run 0 gauge wiring on my subwoofer amp and it helps with huge power movement, this in mind, you can always run a larger wire for electrical, it helps with line loss and lowers the resistance, so running a larger plug wire size is just an improvement to the handling of the power from (A) to (B). You can only use as much power as the stock ignitor/coil will put out so a very, very slim chance of burnin' things up. As for the Lucas treatment, I have never used it, so I can't say either way.

Bigger ignition wires= less resistance, if you let your truck sit for long periods of time, put a gas stabilizer in the tank . Can get @ any hardware store.
I would run the stock plug, don't change the heat range!
    A better air cleaner will help performance:cool: ,like a K & N,stock replacement,it's a life time filter,you just wash it!

Lucas is a great product. Not just the oil treatment but anything that they make It's all good stuff. As far as plug wires, mine are the stock size right now until I upgrade them. If you're going to bag your truck or put a sound system in it, be sure to run heavy gauge wire. one of my buddies rescently got an s10 that's bagged and whatever dumbass wired it up ran 18 gauge wire to a toggle switch, then ran like 12 gauge to the compressor. Almost set the damn truck on fire. I had to rewire the entire thing. Just remember if you're going to do a job, then do it right the first time!:D

Wow, alot of rocket scientists out there ! Its no wonder they put caution signs on everything ! Lemme guess, probably didnt fuse it either  ! I guess my total all time favorite is when I see someone driving around with lens repair tape for months on end " Cracks me up ! " I can see temporary stuff, but, some people just dont think things thru . . . ( Not to say I havent ever done something stupid  )

i think that im going to go with 6mm wires. also going to put a k&n on it. i've ran them in the past on a number of vehicles and they are a good product. i've noticed that a number of you are running a cool air intake system. i havent found a place that has the intake tubes. what are you useing for the tubes? civic tubes? doesn't the stock tube have a spliter on it going to another part of the engine? its dark and cold out and dont fill like going outside to find the exact location. thanks for the info and help guys.

You guessed right! There was no fuse, lol. I swear man, by the time I get done fixing all the **** on that truck I will have pretty much rebuilt it. The driveshaft hits the gas tank crossmember it's got a poorly built homemade notch that looks like a gorilla welded it up, I bet the tank had never been drained. I pulled the plug out of the bottom of it and I bet a liter of water came out. It ridiculous. oh and we went and got something to eat last night and were coming back to my house and the wheel bearings blew out! So I had to fix that today, I feel so bad for him he's had nothing but bad luck from the day he got the truck since the day he got it. He got a ticket in it on his way back home the day he got it.

    Try . . .

Hey, sorry about that, heres a couple of ideas . . .

    http://www.toyotacatalog.net/M1WebGear/ProductSearch.aspx?Class=1564

    * The same page I started with when I ordered my engine electrical tune-up KIT ! *

    http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=700+4294907680+4294907510+115+4294924761&SearchType=Make

    * A good place to start for anything for your truck *

Both of these are name brand companies and have alot of great products, pricing is so-so, shipping is fast and alright, but, Ive found quality of these/their parts are A+++

FWIW, I just did a tune up on my 91 (180K on the clock) and used OEM specced wires/plugs/cap etc.

Runs significantly smoother now, maybe because of how misgapped the old plug were?
