So I've heard that with the right materials you can take the black paint off and have an all chrome grille. What do I need to do this?

i've heard a little aircraft stripper, but if left on too long it eats up the chrome.

    Paint stripper

I sprayed some paint stripper on to a small ball of steel wool and rubbed the areas I wanted to remove the paint from until the chrome came through and then wiped off the stripper. The more control you have over the stuff, you lessen the chances of accidentally getting some on something and messing it up. Paint stripper is not picky about what it removes paint from. Not sure if you're trying to take off a little of the black or all of the black from your grille. If you trying to take it all off, I would take the grille off of the truck so you can lay it down flat and go at it like that. When you're done be sure to wash the stuff off with water and get all of it. Anything left behind can still do damage. Good luck man:waytogo:

    Its a 92-95 4x4 3 piece grille

Thanks, everyone! It will eventually have a billet grille installed. I just thought I'd spruce it up 'til I can get the billet grille. But I will try it on the headlight doors.

I heard the same thing, seen a chrome grill on a 01-04 Tacoma the other day, very interesting to know about this, why is it chrome underneath from the factory, easier and cheaper to manufacter one way and them just paint over the different models, SR5 vs not?

From what I've been told use a little goo gone or paint stripper and ALOT of elbow greese. But if you have an all black grille, there is no chrome underneath.

They probably chrome the whole thing then paint the center.

kinda looks like a model a kid would build, not knowing how to wash the details of the grill. i think i prefer the black in the grille.

I think I'm just gonna do the headlight doors. Why waste the time to do the grille when its just gonna get cut out.

I think if you just took it from the center bar and small vert bars but left it on the flat end areas it would look cool.
