Anyone in here running dual alternators? Plan to build up my sound system and wanted to add a second alt. I already picked it up, but its for a 3.0 instead so was thinking of running both of them If anyone has done this before can you post pics of what you did? Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.

Looking at my alt the bottom part looks larger, but im not sure. Ill try and post some pics tomorrow. Anyone else got any info, tips or suggestions?
This is actually the first time I have heard of running dual alts. On my 4x4 I am running a chevy one wire alternator. It is almost a bolt on fit although I did have to fab up a little part that offsets the lower alternator bolt/mount away from the engine to clear the larger housing on the chevy alternator. There is a range of options in output available depending on the alternator you choose to go with. I chose a lower output model as it was still quite a bit more charge than the stock unit and I didn't want it to rob too much horsepower. It made my headlights brighter and I no longer have charging issues when it is idling (50,000 volt ign). I guess I can see an advantage in that with dual alts you would have a back up if one failed, but personally I wouldn't want to give up the horsepower over it. I would try to run the smallest high amp alternator that would produce enough power for my needs. It is quite possible there is more to the dual alt thing though that I am unaware of.
Thanks for the input. The whole reason i want to do this is so that i have a alt dedicated to my stereo system. I already have the alt. I checked and its a Iraggi 220a in a GM housing, so that EBay bracket kit will be perfect. I just have to find somewhere to put it and then splice the wiring. Heres some pics/ a preview on what i plan on doing. Enjoy. I plan to post more pics as the progress comes along, or at least make a new thread, so stay tuned. Hey someone in here knows their stuff. Not sure yet. In order to run these i need 1 3/4 spacers, so might be looking into other brands as well. Keep posted though, starting a build log real soon
