See man I told you the 7mgte is the way to go! Basically you will have to use different engine mounts, tranny depends on if you want auto or manual, lots of wiring, and use slim electric fans, exhaust, and thats about it. I would not buy a long block though. I would try to find a half cut or an entire donor car. Don't be afraid of this swap! It's really not all that difficult from what I have found also there are wiring diagrams and everything. Check this place out supracharged.com they have a ton of info! Oh and don't even bother with your 3.0V6 it's one of the worst toyota engines made and is pretty much worthless.

Hey now, let's not get into 3.0 bashing. Other than being underpowered, once you change out the stock headbolts to eliminate the small chance of a head gasket going, the engine is extremely reliable.;)

It's underpowered and overweight but it is reliable.

Well most of these swaps have been into 4wd with big tires and they still get about 20mpg so in a 2wd I'm guessing we could pull 30mpg. The 1uzfe is a good engine too so check it out but it is a little harder swap. I'm starting to lean back towards the 1uzfe myself simply because it's a much more modern engine and will give my truck over 30mpg. As far as racing your probally looking at about 10mpg if you stay in boost while the 1uzfe might pull 15mpg but when you're racing unless you do endurance you shouldn't have to worry about fuel.

I'm loving the 30 mpg's. Now what I need to do is save money to get me one.

Newbie here and not to highjack your thread. it seems like the 7m is the way to go in these trucks. i have a 92 and am getting tired of the 22re and want a little sleeper like we all do..lol. just not to knowledgable with toyotas.(came from the turbo buick world).what HP is achievable from a stock 7mgte with out major mods? Is a 1jz a more difficult swap? is it worth considering this over a 7m? thanks in advance

I have swap a 7MGTE into my 1990 ext-cab. Have not got it running yet, but the engine is in. To put a 7MGTE into your truck isn't straight forward. There are some modification that have to be made. Not to many major ones, but ones that must be done to get the engine into a 2wd. The only real major mod is the oil pan. It has to be notched to clear the steering drag link. Other changes are the radiator, fuel lines, exhaust, intercooler lines and mounting the intercooler. But it can be done. There are a lot of guys running the 1 & 2JZ's in their trucks. I sure they had to made the same changes to get those engines to fit. I'm not sure but I think the 1 & 2JZ's are a couple of inches longer than the 7M.

cool i appreciate the reply. just curious though. Are you planning on running a aftermarket fuel pump since the demand is going to be greater? or will a supra in-tank pump fit and work in a pickup? I was looking at places to mount an intercooler and i was thinking the best thing to do is put it below the condenser just in case you wanted to try and get the a/c to work down the road. it would take some notching and fabbing up of the lower radiator support and crossbar on the front of the frame horn but just wanted to know your thoughts and suggestions...one more thing. If i get 5m mounts, is that all that is needed to drop the 7m into my truck? thanks a lot

nboost, you should at the minimum buy a stock supra fuel pump. the 3rd gen supra fits right in with out mods and can be had for like $30.00 used. a 4th gen pump can handle a safe 500rwhp and is denso made. no noisy walbro. flows also at 255lph. and with a kenne bell bap goes pass that. i used a 3rd gen pump for awhile and worked just fine making mid 300rwhp.

dont worry about mpg. my 1jz yota gets the same miles per gallon as my 91 corolla 4 cylinder. 30mpg (off boost)
