I had wanted a toyota 2wd toyota for awhile and finally found this 1980 sr5 has 20r with a weber 32/36 5 spd no rot anywhere on this thing. i have cranked the torsion bars up put lift shackles in the back and bought a mini camper for it . the idea is to have a camping/riding rig that will make it down the 100's of miles of logging roads around here. I thought about slamming it like but decided it would have more use to me with a little lift. And all of this for 600$, I know divorce sales are awsome. got the quad and the bike in with little to no squat. This was about a month or so after I got it. The 30x9.5x15's fit right off the bat, some very minor trimming was required so that they would not rub at full stuff in the front. I found a set of honda crx buckets they bolt up to the factory toyota Rails with little to no modification. The full stereo is now in as-well, Cd/mp3 player, 61/2 inch components, Custom aluminum tweeter mounts and a 8" alpine type r with everything running off of a 4 channel kenwood amp, Makes AC/DC Sound very good. How she looked with the 30x9.50 M/t's At this point I had only cranked the torsion-bars and added 2" longer shackles to the rear so, and it fit 30x9.5x15 m/t's quite nicely. It does pretty good for a basically stock 28 year old truck. also picked up a length of boat trailer roller (hard rubber same diameter as toyota body mounts). so I made the body lift from that. Cost me 1.00$ at a swap meet :great: Next I built an aluminum box and Found a set of 31" M/T's on 15x8 inch rims for super cheap, painted them up and they clear no problem with the added 4x4 fenders. At full flex (what little there is ) no rubbing . Painted the sides and back of the box black to match, there was too much aluminum before. Think that I will black out the inside and top rails of the box too with rhino liner. My Buddy parted out an old ruster with a body lift so I stole the 3" blocks to raise the box even with the cab line. Made up a skookum tailgate (have to give my old boss credit for the design), and a quick headache rack. I had so many sets of toyota rear springs , So in went a set of 4x4 4runner rears. Still spring under but man what a nice ride, I think it will stay like this in the rear for awhile. Spring over would be too high I think. Also finished a nice rear bumper with a receiver hitch so I can still tow.... Tail gate Channel that Gate rides in. Ripped some solid stock on the table saw to get the groove needed to slide into channel. Clearance on front tires A little flex And a few pictures of how she is sitting right now with the snow tires and canopy on it for winter That is all for now I will get some recent pictures of the new front bumper with winch mount soon Cheers Barto
Man, truck looks nice man, i like how u mae a few changes here and there till u found just how u liked it (its current state). Let us know when u change somethin!
. . . Now thats what Im talking about, a solid build thread with some very nice handywork and fabrication, add in some usefullness and hell man youve got yourself a mini - added bonus its Toyota! Kewl thread, will keep close for more. . .
here are the Rancho shocks that i took out of my 85 I had to move the mounts up 4" and I tried to make them as vertical as possible so they work better. And finally got the final welding done on the bumper mounts so the new bumper is mounted up, Now I just have to put the reciever tube in the middle of it and it is ready for the 8000lbs. winch . Those turn signals are ugly and temporary I'm waiting on my New L.E.D ones that will be mounted in the grill, and look much better...... That is all for now
Picked up some super cheap Bling For my yota today. They are 15x8 but the offset is not quite enough for my liking so I will have to find some spacers. Tires are Pro=comp All-Terrains 30x9.5x15 and all this for 120$
Okay so I have been very busy lately. I am driving across the country in two weeks so it was time to start getting some stuff done in preparation. First thing on the list was putting a 8" rear end out of a 83 4x4 into my 2wd. This allows me many more gear options. I just happened to have a detroit easy locker sitting around with a set of 4:37's so in they went. The entire swap took me 1 1/2 hours, everything bolted in. I tried spring over to start but soon relized that 4" of lift was way too much, So I chopped off the spring perches on the old axle and welded them on to the new. Worked out mint and is good to go. The only thing that needed to be changed is the flange on the differential end of the drive shaft, as the 2wd is differen't then any 4wd pattern. The e-brake assembly needs to be swapped over from a 4x4 aswell. To deal with some of the axle wrap created my the locker I made up some bastard packs with some killer overloads and the thing swaps the hardest donuts ever it's awsome. So I am sure some of you are like "but the bolt patterns are differen't now!" I made up for that by using some steel wheels that match in looks and width And drilled on of the extra 5bolt rims to have the 6 bolt pattern aswell, leaving me with a spare I can run front or back. I will get some pics up tonight as I know that all of you are pic whores.......
you can get the G code in a 5 lug, or just the axl shafts. i thought most trucks had em up to 83ish. what axl did you take out?
I removed a 7.5" 4:10 and i am still looking for a pair of 5 bolt axles from a g code cause that would make life alot easier......
Swapping in the axle shafts won't work. The 4x4 axle is 55" wide and the 2wd is 56" wide. Just find a '83-up 2wd with a 4spd. It will have an 8" center.
Good info to know but I have only seen g-codes in what they call in canada (1 ton's lol) but i will go check an 84 with a 4 speed that I know about.
So here are some of the pics, of the axle swap and other improvements for my 2500 mile road trip coming up way to quickly. Just getting started My sketchy JackStands The new Axle Everything out The new third with 4:37's and Detroit Easy locker How it sat with it spring over It was way too high. So I made it spring under the next day by chopping the spring perches off of the old housing and welding on the new. I also got busy Fabricating a Second battery mount on the side of the box So that I Have more battery capacity then I can ever use Primary battery Is a 1100 cca Deep cycle and the secondary is a optima blue top 1250 cca Deep cycle marine battery. It is wired up with a dual battery isolator for charging. I have also run a 0/1 gauge welding wire from the second battery back to the first with a shut-off switch for self Jump starting. The 3.5 gallon air tank is charged using a Viair Compressor capable of providing almost 2.0 cfm @ 90 psi Enough to pop a bead back on the rim. Here is the battery and Air-Tank The shut-off switch located behind passenger seat belt out of the way but still within reach of the driver seat. and the isolator mounted under the hood Very easy to wire just don't forget the circuit breaker on the charge line to second battery. That's all for now but I am leaving for my trip in two days so I will post up some pics of her fully loaded before I leave. .
sweet! i like the tank on the side (just need some bags now ). oh, i also have that same snap on tool bag!
