Okay guys, whenever I get the chance, I plan on getting the vented, or as Nvrenuf calls them, smokers' windows for my doors. I've been wanting these since I first got my truck and saw Back to the Future, (ironically, both happened in the same day) and with them, I could install my new speakers in the doors easily, rather than cutting the track and getting new spacers. I was wondering if anyone on here has made the swap before, because I want this done as neat and clean as possible. And I prefer the easiest types of jobs. If anyone's done this, could you guys make a how-to list for me? Thanks in advance!
if i recall correctly, all you need is the track from the vented doors along with the glass. i'll keep an eye open at the local yard.
Yeah, I've got a list of Salvage yards close by and I'm going to check all of them for what I'm wanting to get. My list includes - Vented windows all around (obviously) -Bucket Seats & console -Rear bumper and brackets -Two new tail light lenses (mine are mismatched) -radio surround -in-dash clock -(if any are in good shape) AC face -4Runner inclinometer / altimeter -SR5 cluster -New dash -Mudflaps for all around, don't want aftermarket garbage (too much stuff for my meager income, but I'm working on it)
He will also need the felt for it was well. Also his doors might not be drilled for the bolts and screws that hold them in. Im going to the u pull it here this weekend. they have 4 of my year in there im picking at, ill look and see as well for you
i think you can get new tail lenses cheap on ebay. there was an inclinometer on phoenix craigslist for $80, i wish i would have got it....
I'll just try and get it from a junker, or my girlfriend's dad's friend's 4Runner he only has for parts. Grease his palms with $40 and it could be mine.
Found this for ya on ebay, burnzya! JDM inclinometer/altimeter only 99 cent top bid! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...c0.m245&_trkparms=72:1205|65:12|39:1|240:1318
For the install will I need to get new regulators for the main glass? I just bought two new for my solid window and I am hoping I could still use them.
No biggie. While I get the set up, I'll take both of the whole doors and swap all internals. Besides, The weatherstripping that holds the window in place in my passenger door is bad and needs replacement anyway. I think I now understand how to do the swap though, I didn't understand originally in the Chilton guide, because like all service manuals, it's very dry. Just gotta track this stuff down...
Do you mean the interior door panels? Because I saw the holes and everything that they mount to, just by peeling back the weatherstripping. Oh well, if that's what you mean, I'll pick some of those up too.
If you're going to be up north anytime soon, I've got a set of doors I'll trade you as long as yours are in good condition.
Track's going bad on my passenger door, tough to roll up and down. And I have to push the window to (semi)-seal the weather strip. I've seen this one website, http://carterswebsite.com/4runner, and he swapped in vented windows, but it looks like he used the original doors...NMTOY, you did just mean the paneling for the basic hand crank one right? Would drilling work if not?

How is it that I need new paneling for this? The vinyl panel looks like it is the carbon copy of mine. The regulator on my door looks like it mounts in the same spot as the vented doors. (2nd post down) http://www.yotatech.com/f96/1st-gen-dash-speakers-hard-take-out-door-panel-speakers-kind-126748/ I do understand that the regulators are different, but I think that since these were optional at the dealership, that they'd use the same panel to mount them to cut production costs. I'd really rather use my stock doors with these.
