Ive been scouring forums for a couple weeks now for things to do to my '83 2wd 22R P'up. More and more i keep finding stuff for mudding or rock crawling 4x4 applications. I dont intend on goin off road with my baby. Or doing a whole lot to the exterior as far as body kits or things of that nature. I really like the way she looks now. More or Less a Sleeper

What i do want to do as far as performance, for starters is:

    1. A performance Header along with a less restrictive 2.25" pipe setup, cat-less of course...

    2. Upgrade the Carb, probably a Weber 38 w/o emmision crap... but im open to any suggestionsand or any walkthroughs or help with deleting smog bullscat

    3. Performance Cam

    4. Gear swap (im clueless as to where or what to look for as far as this goes) I have 14" rims with low-pro Dunlops, so my speedo reads faster than my actual speed, but id like to get a bit higher top end/speed.

These are for starters, and prob just about in this order too, but i could use some direction as far as Manufacturers and any tips and crap...

    Thanx for any help guys.

My 88 is a street performance ride all the way, have LC's Pro Street EFI & still is very streetable. Coming back from Danger Zone, stayed @ 65mph for the 223 mile trip home( don't do this often) got 31 mpg, most of the time is around 26mpg.
Recommend any & all parts from LC! And all is smog illegal!

I have an LC Engineering 22R 4 cylinder motor dynoed in at 285HP installed in my truck and I am really happy with it. Even though I have a 4x4, I mostly drive on the street and highways. I drive 65-75 MPH and the throttle response and power (especially on long steep hills) is really great. LC Engineering has the most experience and will steer you right. If you have a small budget, tell them and they will guide you so you can do a gradual build. Talk to John in Tech, he really knows his stuff.

Yeah, you can't beat LC for performance,& I have spoken with John many times with answers almost always .
Just called him yesterday about a problem that just popped up with my alternator,140 output ( under drive pulleys) no to none output @ idle.
Only a problem with long idle periods, like this last weekend waiting 2 hrs in line @ Danger Zone!

Lots of parts out there... The question is how much time and money your willing to spend for more performance?

Yeah, that confused me too. I mean, you are in Cali, too.

Unless yours is only for racing or show.

    been busy...

Ok, so im goin with a 4-to-1 Pacesetter Header, 4-to-1's offer mid to high rpm range power, as opposed to tri-Y which are tuned more for low rpm grunt. Got a guy whos gonna de-smog it and tune the stock carb up for me for now till i get up the green for some weber side drafts, they run a lil over a grand so, no rush. As far as my tranny, i found one for 100 bucks in PA, shifts smooth as ice now. took me a week to zero in on it but for the price, it was worth the wait.

Are there any that are Cali emissions legal? That'd save me from having to locate a 22RTE later.

    Sorry to thread jack.

True, it'd be sad to spend all that money and never use it. I'd hate that.
