Here is my new project. 1978 Celica Dry stored for basically the last Decade.
    Specs.
20r, 5 spd, 89,000 original miles. Rag top moon roof, operational 8 Track with about 60 cassettes, almost no rust and only a few minor dings.

I have put on a flowmaster muffler, the 14" wheels with bfg 225/60/14's and have a Header and weber going on hopefully this weekend.

This thing is a blast to drive and if you float the valves in 2nd. you can get a 3rd gear chirp .

    Here are some pics

    when I got it home.

2 days later with a wash and new wheels.

And after a good clean-up and polished wheels.

    Badass! Nice Celica!

I used to have a '77 Celica GT Liftback with the 20R & a buddy had the same car as mine but with the 22R & Weber carbs. Man I miss those cars.

Thanks for the positive responses guys

I am hoping shonuff? will chime in because I know he has one as well.

I need to try to figure out how to make this thing handle a little better and I need to stiffen up the chassis due to the giant hole that the moon roof creates.

Car looks nice! That's something I'm kind've looking for as well. There's a 78 coupe for sale here that I have my eyes on but it's an automatic. Definately not as fun to drive!

    that is pretty :)

also my fav version of the celica.

so in a nutshell heres some suspension upgrades that are cheap-ish.

mkII supra front springs cut to fit in the front
fox body mustang rear springs cut to fit in the rear
    mkII supra front sway bar
3rd gen celica SRA rear sway bar
poly-graphite bushings all the way around
shocks of choice (beware of limited selection, i went with KYB all the way around).

i am actually working on the brakes as we type, im hoping i have all the parts i need to bolt on 3rd gen celica/mkII supra front brakes. and if i get it to work then i can upgrade to cressida 13.5in rotors up front.

the rear i have a mkI supra 7.5in solid axl with discs.

    some great places for info:

www.celica-gts.com (running gear is the same amongst all SRA celica's)
    www.classiccelica.com
    www.1stgencelica.com

there is no dedicated 2nd gen site, someday ill host one when i get around to it.

i would think of making a cross brace at the B pillar, near the roof. it wasnt a very sturdy stock piece in the first place, but it is needed. and that hole you got isnt stock, in any way shape or form. when a vert was made they did a huge under carriage chassis brace, and had to put on side skirts to hide it.

good luck with the project let me know if i can help or if your missing parts, i prolly have like 4 of everything.

So I went junkyarding yesterday and got a set of mk11 supra springs and sway bar, a buddy of mine had mustang rear springs.

Looks like I lined up a 7.5" housing from a mk1 supra and I just so happen to have a locker for this housing............:waytogo: does it all line up? also have a g-58 trans being pulled for me so that I can get on that upgrade too.

Oh and ordered KYB's for the front as I got a free set of sensatrac's for the rear.

Should be all together in the next week then it's on to paint and minor body work.

Thankyou So much for the advice ShoNuff I will be Asking more ? through this process.

Oh and who carries the poly bushing? I can not source them out locally. Who makes them? (energy had nothing it seemed.)

Now all I need is the rear sway bar.

i got my poly bushings from energy suspension. http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/toy.html

there wasnt a kit so i had to buy each bushing seperately.

that G series tranny is for a truck, you might have fitment issues with the shifter.

a all aluminum w58 is really nice tho (what i run) you can find it in most any celica or supra 82-85ish, and there is a a sweet shifter bushing made for it by billyM (you can contact him @ celica-gts.com)

you'll soon realize that the 2nd gen is the bastard child of the celica's. it doesnt really have much direct support but just about anything will work on it.

Sorry my bad it is a w-58 That I have lined up not the g-58

Stupid parts guy was looking for a kit through energy, I even suggested to look for them individually.
I am all about the bastard vehicles because it takes so ingenuity to make them work. Have you seen my crawler?

Thanks for the tips, Looks like I will still be way under my budget for this thing
Because of how cheap used parts are.............:D This is a good thing because I have a vary hard time getting off of my wallet.
