So after a summer of showing & driving my girl far & wide, I don't like the stock flywheel that was installed in Bullhead City after loss the flywheel in route to Forbidden Fantasy. That happen because the flywheel lot supper hot slipping the clutch going over our first pass in craszy stoop & go traffic, than hour going up hill & 40 mins going down!! The light weight flywheel ,aluminum center with steel outer gear ring . These & all flywheels it seems are two pieces, with the center being froze & the otter being heated & then dropped together !! Mine separated !! Will go with a all steel light weight 12. lbs, my old one was 9 lbs, what they put in is not the same & not good with this engine!! LC is checking to see if they can weld tabs with mounting holes to the otter ring than once together holes can be drilled though the center plate & rivet or bolt together preventing any separation!. if they can't do that I will just run the steel one has comes! They say they have never seen a flywheel separate!!
That’s strange, I’ve never seen one separate, but any I’ve seen have had a removable steel contact plate. Aluminum ones are usually used for racing or high reviving engines though, so I’m surprised they even make them fit our trucks
LC Engineering is the main high performance supplier for Toyota 22r & 22re engines ,also makes parts for a few other Toyota engines. Toyota RD recommended them. My Regine is one of their stage one engines with all they recommended!
Which brands have you used ? I'm trying to match one up to a clutchmasters 6 puck I have but will also work with a street stg3. My thoughts are on 12lb fidanza unit I keep seeing.
One thing that concerns me about the LCE lightweight flywheel is LCE says you have to use the LCE clutch and pressure plate due to the proprietary PP bolt pattern. I dunno if this is true, though. Is it? I've been looking at and comparing the chromoly flywheels from Toda, Jun, and Exedy. They all use standard Toyota PP bolt patterns so trying different clutches would be easier. I'm not a big fan of aluminum flywheels. They're all by necessity multi-piece and the different expansion rates of aluminum and steel makes me wonder (yeah, i tend to be paranoid) if the flywheel bolts will become loose...
The 3 companies you mention do not have any flywheels for a Toyota 22re In my continuing search I found Fidanza, & talked with one of there techs. Told him what I have engine wise, & what happened with the LC flywheel. He directed he to there light weight flywheel ( is aluminum) but is bolted together! And I will be using a Centerforce dual clutch assy, has the LC clutches fit only their flywheels! A piece Chomemoly flywheel would be my choice ,but none available for Toyota's!
Is that the 9.5 lb wheel? That's the one I was looking into. I like the idea of swapping out a ware pad rather then cutting down to resurface.
9lbs, & unlike the LC one I had that failed ( 14 years ), this one has 3 fasteners that are extra security to prevent the out ring from separating ( what happened with my LC flywheel! This flywheel was available through amazon, the manufacture didn't have any on the self!
Nice! Yea this unit seams like it's seen legit R&D! You would think the bolt heads were a little deeper but then again that shows you the confidence within their product.. or planned obsolescence to make us by more plates!! ..which in all honesty would do beforehand just in case this part becomes discontinued.
After seeing this im starting to assume i have the Fidanza flywheel and not the LCE one even though the wear pad i bought from LCE was a direct fit
Fidanza Performance 130221,Flywheel Aluminum PC $382 on amazon I got new flywheel & clutch bolts from LC , as they are ARP bolts
Looks like on the site it's states its regularly stocked item. Definitely going to get one. Hadn't pulled the trigger on one yet and been wanting to. A different flywheel changes the characters of the performance. In low powered motor it can be one the most noticeable differences besides gearing.
Speaking of.. have you dyno'd your truck? They would've recommended some spicy items to a healthy number of ponies
