I recently completed an L43 to W50 transmission swap on a 78, and had to move the tranny crossmember 2-3 inches towards the rear of the vehicle in the process. Now, I'm not comfortable with how tight the front parking brake cable is as it comes out of the firewall and wraps downward towards the crossmember.

Has anybody dealt with a similar situation, and if so what was your solution? Is there another year's parking brake cable that's a bit longer that I can swap in?

Can you shorten the bracket? Or loosen the cable?

Yeah I've tried both but it's unsafe with how tight it is and where it's resting. The rear cables are too long with the shift too but I was able to fix that.

If it's out of the truck do you mind measuring it? There are a bunch on RockAuto for the gen so not sure which one you have. Thanks.

Would a short box or long box affect the cable length? I'd imagine since the frame sizes and thus axle lengths from the cab would be different. Unless I'm wrong

    Yeah, spot on.

Is the one from your 79-83 still in a donor truck or is it laying around? If it's laying around, can you measure it?

I see, that makes more sense since the transmission wouldn't be stretched :duh:
