Ok so I have a 1975 Toyota pickup sr5 rebuilt the engine which is carbureted 20r then shortly after completing the rebuild within a week of breaking the engine in had some clunking going on long story short transmission blew a bearing and chewed up some gears and finding parts was a very difficult task so got lucky got a 5 speed transmission from a junkyard and it was pretty well a straight up swap had to cut the shifter hole some in the floor board but was same length and same transmission mount but I am now trying to figure out what model transmission I have it supposedly came out of a late 80s pickup with 22r 2wd that’s all the info the junkyard had now the shifter lever housing has 4 bolts and the shift lever itself has the style of retainer that you push down and twist to remove or install shift lever any help is greatly appreciated
Put a magnet to it, if it sticks it may be a W50. Late 80s may be a W55 tho, would be mostly aluminum
Marlin Crawler has a complete data base for identification of W series transmissions. The W50 has a steel case, all the others are aluminum. Most have the same exterior measurements. What makes the numbers different is how the transmission is geared. Contact Marlin Crawler. They should be able to help.
