Well like every winter I have changes or repair work to do after a show season Got started today, first up change out a damaged power steering hose, had the new one made a few weeks ago. At the same time replace the front Willwood brake rotors & brake pads , & change out the shocks ( 14 years ), going to QA1's front & rear. Repair & paint work will happen @ the front bumper, ( drag that shit on driveways every once in a while ! And some body paint repair work. Photo's will come
Got the front brake/shock replacement done New Wilwood rotors ( the black comes off) ,new brake pads, & changed from Doetsch to QA1 Next up the rear
very cool, I always love to see how these projects keep evolving. What are you hoping to gain with going to QA1s?
It was time for new shocks & I wanted to go with BILSTEIN'S but talking with one of their techs they had nothing with the same extended & collapsed dimensions of what I was running . So the next call was to QA1 & they had what I need. Will see if I notice any difference, the Doetsch are gas/oil, where as the QA1's are oil only, I have only heard good things about QA1's
Had to replace the rear calipers ,as when I removed the e-brake bracket the seal popped out on one of the calipers So two new ones were in order, & got them in paint
Today ,now that the paint is good & dry, I will load the calipers, install & bleed them, & get the e-brake cable back on & adjust the e-brake, clean & reinstall the wheels, & on to the next work to be done!!
Drivers side caliper would not slide over the rotor, found it wrapped & cracks in it. Found that the e-brake cable ( not stock) was binding on that side, cable wound not slide freely! Two new rotors & e-brake cable on their way. Back to the front bumper work!
Bumper repair work while waiting on rotors Filling damaged areas with weld than body filler & paint work
Found another problem , the front brace between the lower A-Arm supports which I had made to lay lower , damaged from hitting at speed on freeways ( fucked up road )! Had to remake a new one , done & wattling on new drill bits ,will finish up tomorrow.
It is probably not, is thinner so to lay the front down further. Damaged it on our dam freeways ,uneven , hit hard at 80 ,tore one end. My ride height is 4.5'' frame to ground.
Another item I had to address is the compressor mounting plates, the 5mm nuts that I had tacked in place were failing, so new plates I had to make & the use of Rivtenuts in place of tacking nuts ! Will get painted when I shoot the front bumper
So this brake work has turned into more & more work. After installing the rotors & pads, & bleeding , the pedal would drop, all the signs of a bad master,so changed it out & found a bad fitting on a hard line feed. Tried the make a double flair in place, only to have it leak. So pulled that line off & made the flair at the work bench which looks much beeter, will bleed again this morning & hope the pedal press is what it should be. The self bleeding tool seems to work fine
So this just keeps going on & on. One of the stock crimps on the after market braided hose was leaking , think it got damaged along the way. And now that I had to drain the master & will have to start bleeding once again, I decided to pull the master for a look, glad I did has it was dumping oil into the the front of the booster, which may or may not have effected the seal! This was a brand new master!! The booster was used & 14 years ! Two more new parts a must !! Painted both & will install the booster today, new hoses are being made for the master.
Got anther pair of hoses made for the master has one of the stock fitting on the after market hoses was lecking , got damaged at some point. Brakes are working great! Changed out the rag joint also , 35 years old! Next change plugs, cap & rotor ,oil & filter & get smoged , then back to the front bumper get in paint & back on!
Tomorrow the front bumper will go back on, now in paint & chip guard. Also started the small dent repair at the rear, took the area down to metal ,used the stud gun to pull the dent out ,will weld up the small holes from the studs, prime & start the body filler today
