blown head gasket on my 22r forced me to decide.. n .. i did .. i borrowed a 20r to drop in while i make 22r tuff.. i work my truck .. heavy loads short distancesless n 15 miles loaded .. lighter loads up to 150 miles ..so .. some fun challenges like fuel pump.. carb bolt pattern .. vac lines.. n cooling system.. i have had overheating issues from day one ... advice -tricks-any help in any section would be sweet .. but critical in cooling section.. i have couple weeks before i get my 22r up n running tuff if everything goes perfect .n. longer if .if. if. but cooling needs be solved now.. i gotta give this20r back in good shape.. stock radiator came 87 pu.. i have flushed system .. re routed n lengthened hose that passed[ in my opinion]to close to exaust .. new [ and tested on stove boiling waterinfrared thermometer]thermostat functioning at stated temp .. im outa ideas n refuse to blow up borrowed 20r .. ill stop self employ n be .... something else before i ruin another toy motor .. help please
Make sure you allow the cooling system to "burp" all the air bubbles out. Any air pocket in the cooling system will cause a overheating type situation. Raise the front of the truck up a couple inches, remove the radiatior cap and fill it up and let it run til. Refill as needed. This will also let you see if the fan is kicking on when its supposed to
lot hapnd from thn 2 now. the 22r was 20r i had search n find 22r get it to shop for bore n mike 4 pistons . but did get 22r head into shop 4 chk out n researfaced. got head back n will do valves while wait on block
