That 4age rips! I own a first gen MR2 and believe me, DOHC overcompansates for 1.6 liters. It's rev happy and OEM forged internals. The best blocks have 7 ribs on them. You won't regret putting that in your truck! Look up 4ageGarage on YT.

Yes! Many people have success with with Link g4 system, also the MegaSquirtPNP is excellent for this motor. I'm planning on itbs from a suzuki 750rr and NODIZ Pro gen2 ecu, canceling out the dizzy and going C.O.P.!

looks like you have a bit to do with the 4AGE, Love the KP60 I had to sell mine when I moved to aus. Do you know why the crank broke on mine? see the pics above page 3

Did you have a broken/damaged bearing when you disassembled it? If it came out of a fwd/MR2 it could've been the notorious oil starving problem some saw on long right hand turns. This problem didn't get corrected till about 1990 on those engines. So maybe that's why it was in the barn! Lol you can correct that problem with a baffle kit.

Apart from the break the rest of the crank looked in good shape, with no signs of oil problems at all, I've no idea of the history of the engine looks great inside. So a bit of a mystery. I found a crank from a 20valve and got another conrod, just getting it checked at the engine rebuild place and it should be good to put back together.

You're gna like that engine once it's back together! The trick will be pairing it with the correct tranny/gears. Not much torque, but man does it rev! With mild cams and proper fuel management and you're off for some fun! The guy from 4ageGarage dedicates himself to testing real world applications on these engines, if your interested in gaining good knowledge of these dual cammed 4bangers, check him out! You'll enjoy his KP61.

finally got back to working on shorty, I had a few issues with finding parts, and wrong parts turning up, sending back, and getting the correct parts. I've started assembling the engine, with a 20vacle crank, new rings and bearings, so far so good.

I was so confused seeing the reliefs for 4 valves on the pistons. Thought this was a 22r for a second.

finally got the motor together, and running on the floor, next is converting everything to RWD. first up is the intake manifold which the throttle body is at the wrong end. I found some scrap which I've cut to make the new base and I've cut the end off the manifold. Just waiting for it to get welded on as I don't have a tig.

Still waiting for the guy to weld the manifold :-( I started on the bell housing today. Went to take some photos and of course, the camera was flat and the charge cord run away with the spoon.... So the 4age engine came out in a number of vehicles but most were front-wheel drive or transverse mid-mount RWD like in the MR2, The only RWD car was the AE86 sprinter, quite rare in Australia and the bell housing and gearbox are rarer still and expensive. So sticking with my budget build I've made a plate that converts the 4age engine rear bolt pattern to the Hilux bell housing pattern. I've had to swap the starter motor to the opposite side and use a starter from a fwd corolla. I've still got to countersink some bolts holes and sort out fastens, but it looks way better than I expected.
Here is a video of a number of AE86s if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

I Haven't got that far yet, I can machine a few mm of the back and maybe the front of the bell housing if its an issue.

I just use a click torque wrench, I haven't done much else for a few weeks I'm hoping to get an extension on the shed and a vehicle lift at some stage.

Ive had a few other projects on I've now extended the shed and put in a 2 post lift, and of course, I've had all the other crap to deal with, Misses car developed a no-start fault, then a huge fuel leak, everybody wants to use my lift and a lot of crap weather wind, floods and also put in a granny flat for my autistic son. Also got pissed off with Ebay so starting to leave stupid feedback for my own amusement.
