You can if no smog checks, but I wouldn't recommend it. The EFI engine depends on all that stuff to run correctly!

    Should have kept... '88 4x4 22RE
Swap the RE for a heavily modded carbed 22R. If we didn't have that crap here in Cali, I probably would try that myself. As TRUCK ACTION said, the EFI depends on that stuff.

Gas milage might get screwed....... has the potential to run funny... but nothing serious should happen. Possibly a check engine light.

i hear a standalone system will cut all the useless stuff out (smog stuff) and make everything run better, more efficiently. keep in mind this is all computer controlled so if you cut one thing out its gonna fault a code and try to make up for the fault in the system in one way or another.

mainly...... if yer not gonna run a standalone system, i would be mainly concerned of how lean or rich the motor will run. in that case you will want a wideband and a way to adjust your fuel mix....... piggyback possibly.

Heres what I got from LCEngineering....

I am doing a 22RE (87 truck)rebuild and was interested in your egr block off plates. What are the pros and cons of removing egr and emissions stuff? Just wanted to know what the pros and cons are when removing egr? Some tell me to remove it and some tell me dont mess with it. I just want a cleaner engine bay after my rebuild. No emissions test where I live so Im not concerned with passing any test.

    (LCE replied)
The engine does not need the EGR valve to operated so the main issue is the ECU. on some applications it will show a check engine light and on some it won't You can "test" it by bypassing the sensors that attach to the valve. If you don't get any issues then you can remove it with no problems.

When you say bypass the sensors, do you mean just disconnect it or do I have to rewire anything?

    (LCE replied)
Bypass the vacuum routing by plugging to lines and disconnect the sensors connected to the EGR valve.
