Do those get battens in them? Or is it just tension that prevents them from flapping in the wind?

The snaps keep enough tension on the material to keep it from flapping around. Im also going to be adding a couple of adjustable cross braces across the top of the bed to keep the cover from sagging in the middle. I dont need to worry too much about water pooling up on the bed cover as the truck is always garaged so it should be fine

Finally got my truck back yesterday. Took the guy 4 days to finish the cover.. each day was another excuse as to why it wasnt done. Im happy i have the bed covered up now just frustrating how long it took

Havent done much of anything to the truck lately other than driving it and getting comfortable in it. Finding new flaws in it that need attention, maybe il get to them in the warmer months.

I did pull the billets off the other day, need to polish them up again. Threw the 14s on it and im realizing i dont like how it looks on those wheels now that its bagged. I do have some 16" steelies i may get tires for and sell the 14s. I'll see.

    Heres a few recent pics

Was having a slight issue last week where the damn truck would idle and run fine when cold but when it warmed up it would get real rough and sometimes die. Googled a lot and ended up changing out my negative battery terminal and the main ground wire(didnt realize what was on it was like 6 or 8awg.) thinking this would help because the MSD box can be such a picky little bitch with voltage.

ended up pulling the distributor, valve cover, removing the cam gear bolt and throwing the manual fuel pump cam back in since ive only been able to set the timing and have the truck run at what was showing up to be over 20°. Got it set at 10 now and seems very happy

Had to set the timing back to 8, bitch still gives me a hard time when i go to start it. Also played with the carb a little and decided to check what fuel jets were in it and noticed the secondary jet was CLOGGED. Cleaned it out and floored the pedal a few times and yea we have WOT now. Gotta take it out for a drive still and see what it does

Had to set the timing to 5°, seems happy there kind of. Finally got it to fire up this morning, been trying every day this week to drive it in the morning and it wont start. Soon as it gets a little warm outside it fires right the hell up like nothing is wrong.

still trying to figure this issue out, probably need to adjust the choke early in the morning.

i did give it a nice WOT run from 20-60 and it picked up pretty damn good. Need to up the rev limiter on the MSD box, feels like it has a little more after 5500rpm

Just a heads up after 5300 rpm the harmonic balancer is useless. Mostly just going to shack itself to death.

    These things have harmonic balancers?

There is a lot of debate over that question, but essentially, no. The engine is internally balanced, but the wheel on the front of the crankshaft people call a "harmonic balancer".

According to the internet the crank pulley is some sort of 2 piece deal(had no idea) i have an extra one at home il look at tonight. Maybe this is why my timing marks are always in odd places

Some people say that, some people disagree. Mine is only one piece.

our engines are balance by boring holes to balance weight on the crankshaft itself.

Just spoke to a coworker that was a tech at Toyota back in the heyday of the 22R/E and confirmed that they are some kind of 2 piece design. I may have to buy a new one and see what happens. Because i cant seem to get my timing marks to stay in the same place from one day to the next which is weird AF

If you do have a balancer on the engine they can fail and the outer ring comes loose which makes the timing marks "move" you will never get the timing right if that happens. It can also come apart and damage your radiator or anything else that gets in the way. About a year ago I had one let go on a PSA engine in my daily driver, the rubber band inside the balancer somehow got sucked into the timing cover, and wrapped around the timing belt, and destroyed the engine when all the valves hit the pistons. yep so worth replacing it.

It's 2 piece and the physically connection is rubber. They can slip.
