Hello All!
I bought my 77 RN23 back in April with intend to fix it up, restore, mod, and just have some fun with it. Here are a few pics of it as when I got it. Right now I'm working on mounting the bench seat that came with it. It doesn't appear to be the original seat, and the seat brackets do not line up with any of the mounting holes. It was just sitting on the floor.

 

Definitely need to find some bucket seats

 

Yeah I think the originals were buckets. It has four holes on each side. I'm making some base out of C-Channels to mount the bench seat. At least I'll be able to drive it to the junk yard to look for bucket seats when things are back to normal.

 

Removed OEM sound deadening to inspect the floor pan. Not too bad. Passenger side has some rust holes, but the driver side is in really good condition.

 

Cut out and patched up the rust holes on the passenger side. Took a few tries to get the correct setting on welding on a sheet metal without burning holes. Not the best looking weld, but they will hold. Going to clean these up, and paint the entire floor with KBS coating this weekend.

 

Cleaned, prepped and put two coats of KBS CAT yellow. It will all be covered with RAAMmat for sound deadening.

 

What did you use for seam sealer?

 

GM ACDelco brand I found on Amazon. It's cheaper than 3M, but it's taking awhile to dry. Hopefully it'll harden over the next couple of days.

 

Picked up a pair of seats from junk yard. They came out of a 1980 Honda Civic.

 

Got the seats mounted. Didn't have to do any welding so I'm happy about that. I used some square tubing with C-Channels I was using to temporarily mount the bench seat that came with the truck. Still need to do some minor adjustments and door cards so I can send them all to upholstery shop at the same time.

 

Didn't really do much this weekend. Center console came in early from Amazon. Was not expecting it to arrive until next week. Welded some C-Channels to mount it. Also cleaned up back of the cab. It appeared to be some type of old adhesive. I used Windex and CLR with a plastic scraper then put a little bit of wax on it.

Finished installing sound deadening on the floor and heat insulation on the firewall. Also dropped off the seats at the upholstery shop. I was not able to order ABS sheets online, so I decided to do the seats first and door cards later. Got the carpet in last week as well. I plan on test fitting it next week.

 

Great work so far! Never heard of KBS coatings, looks like it came out good.

 

Thanks. Yeah it's similar to POR-15. I used it on my last project coating frame. I've gotten good results so far.

 

I was able to get a sheet of ABS from a local upholstery supply shop. Also picked up a yard of Alcantara and made headliner with it using ABS sheet as backing board. Will work on the door cards next week with this weekend being Father's Day.

 

What did you use to stick it to the roof?

 

I just found your build thread in Pre-75 section last week! For some reason I thought your truck is newer. Awesome built by the way..

I used the same contact adhesive I got from the upholstery supply shop for bonding fabric to ABS sheet. I didn't use much of it as it was running out by the time I finished wrapping the fabric. It's mostly staying in there by pressure. I cut the ABS sheet big enough where I can shove it into the side channels. It's flexible to work with, so it's easy to maneuver and push into the channels. I also heat up the plastic sheet and shaped it to the roof to make it fit better before I glue the fabric on.

ive been wondering how i would redo the headliner. May have to try your method
